Thunderhead Keep

Will be doing Thunderhead keep tonight, as a friend of our GM has been trying to get through it for ages, and pug's are a pain.

Just posting here if any of you lot are at the same stage, well then you could tag along I suppose :)

It's just that it's one of the hardest missions in the whole game, as rather than working your way through the spawns, you have to defend the fort at the end.

Thanks for the offer, but I don't think I'm gonna quite make it.

Wossname is up to the Iron Mines.
I'm guessing Thunderhead is next, but I've got to have some tea, and watch Football League Review :)

Depending on what time you start you could always try whispering to Wossname Offdatelly, but I think I've missed the boat :(

Just to annoy your friend, I did it at the first attempt in a PUG.

Well organised team though, and they seemed to know the way.
Three from clan LoD.

Two elementalists manning the balistae seemed to help a lot,
and they pinged the entrance where the remaining enemy were
coming to.

We had two warriors, a ranger and a necro to do the fighting,
and two hench monks.

Most mobs were no problem.

The monk boss though and a few minions got into the fort,
up the stairs towards our king and took a while to take down.
Fortunately no other mobs approached during that time.

Dorian himself was an uber-wuss.

OMG! My Ranger did it at the first attempt too!

This time I got to man a couple of ballistae myself (East Side).
The stoopid enemies seem to stop in the firing line. Just keep firing till they die.

If any get through, you can walk on to the ledge over the entrance and pop poison arrows at them. (Also ping map for help.)

Also worth putting traps etc on this ledge.

I was only attacked once myself by a couple of Jade armours who got up the stairs and came after me. I led them over to our main pack, and they didn't last long.

w00t!

Aye manning the catapults is quite key, having two ranged types (one each side) is quite a boon.

Having a group that knows that the **** is going on helps a lot too :)

In case the regulars end up doing this mission this week, I have found a good write up of the mission here.

It isn't fool-proof.

On my Elementalist's first attempt, we waited and waited and Dorian never came. Some characters went out to draw enemies, but left us exposed in the fort. The king died. We failed.

DO NOT LEAVE THE FORT unless you absolutely have to. I'm not sure you do.
A bit more patience and he may well have turned up. Mind you, some divvy lit the beacons (to invoke bonus) so maybe that screwed us. (As in we had to complete bonus and THEN Dorian would appear. Guessing here.)

DON'T LIGHT THE BEACONS!!!

Not first time through anyway. If we want to do the bonus afterwards for bragging rights OK, but NOT first time through.

That was a fun night tonight, trying the mission just to give us an idea of what to face & getting as far as we did with 5 henchies. Must admit I did enjoy using Arcane Thievery & being a Monk & a Necro for a while as well as my normal Mes/Ranger :) & my pet getting to lvl20 should help now. Almost makes me want to give WoW a miss for another night :) Might have to log in again over the weekend>

Yeah a bit unlucky with the Monk Boss and two mursaat monks at the end. They are a hard group.

Even if you don't kill a group with the ballistae, you weaken them, and they tend to linger near the entrance while they regen. Normally, with 8 real people, some players can go outside and finish them of while they are weakened (so long as they come straight back in afterwards!) Unfortunately that isn't really an option with 3 non-melee chars and henchmen.

If we'd spotted the monks sooner and hit them first rather than the boss we might have got through them. I think that is the hardest group. Wossname died frantically trying to kill them first time through.

Last night we just slaughtered stuff on the way up to the fort though. Probably better than any of the 8 man PUGs I've been in. :)
