Really enjoyed DAoC when it first came out ( - the normal guild squabbles of course) but always enjoyed playing Albion. Being a big fan, and reader, of the Arthur/Merlin/Taliesin stories I suppose I could relate better to the Britons. Most people I knew seemed to change to play Midguard tho' so that was the end of that, never could get the hang of the Atlantis stuff either :)

Of course, having chosen a Paladin didn't help - years later they still seem to be gimped and get dragged around as nothing more than a End bot :(

The big downfall for DAoC for me in RvR was no collision detection. Before release I always envisaged heavy tanks at the front acting as a shield wall to be broken, with healers and casters protected behind. The possibilities for tactics and large scale battles was fab. Instead it seemed to degenerate into squads of players running round with speed spells running straight through the defenders, mezzing everyone constantly, slaughtering the robes and then butchering the now heal less armoured fighters.

Shame really - i love the whole setting and mythology

I agree, the absence of collision detection was a major oversight! I remember Telmorial telling me about the setting of DAoC and getting really excited, imagining the whole shield wall kind of thing as armies clashed. I was quite disappointed when I found out that would not be allowed.

You still get 8 man "uber" squads running about but as I'm on a classic server their bag of tricks is nicely limited and the new pvp misions and new layout of the frontiers means you can pick a fight quickly and easily elsewhere. There's no longer only one place to pvp like emain used to be. However, I think the fights between two good evenly matched 8 mans are some of the best online experiences I've had but then again being part of zerg v zerg free for all have been pretty damn good too! Thinking about it I've had some great times in the Battlegrounds, from level 9 to 35 (haven't tried the higher level ones yet), too!

I guess, for me, I just like killing other players and DAoC currently does that better than any other MMORPG I've played.

And BTW I remember your pally Nym, she was hawt! :hubba:

Is that Civ4 online m8? Any good? Got Civ4, but not tried online just yet...is it me or is the PC too easy on normal mode? I'd expect a sound thrashing online tho!

Nah, Civ 1 :)

I've played a couple of games on Civ 4, not sure what to think of it yet, it feels like they've overcomplicated things which imo were best kept simple (Government, Religions and resources) while making the management and combat a bit simple with all its recommendations and automated workers and the like.

Kinda felt like I was just giving the computer permission to do what it wanted.

Maybe it'll grow on me.

Been playing Civ 1 multiplayer with a couple of mates and it feels much more strategic to me :)
