Transfering Windows 8

Lo Chaps,

I've recently got a new motherboard for my PC so that I can crossfire a couple of cards i've got here.

I know that an OEM version of windows 7 is locked to a specific motherboard however i've heard rumours that you can transfer Windows 8 (Upgrade and full) due to Microsoft changing the licence agreements.

Basically i'm reusing everything i've got in my pc bar the new motherboard

Question is:

If I deactivate my current windows 8 setup using the slmgr.vbs -upk command, can I hook everything back up to my new motherboard and reactivate windows then using my COA Key?

I don't mind doing a full reinstall, however was also wondering if I could leave the HDD how it is then just activate the windows that's on it?

Any ideas?

Thanks

Sept

All sorted :)
Reinstalled using my Windows 8 key can called the automated activation line :)

Now running a B75A-G43 MSI Gaming board running R9 270X and a OC'd MSI 7850 Twin Frozer card in crossfire mode.

haha, Yeah :)

It's not actually that bad, my main gripe was the lack of start button, which I fixed with "Classic Shell" it's pretty quick seems, tons quicker to load to desktop than my windows 7 did, or at least seems to anyway.

Now just to replace the harddrive with an SSD (Probably a Hybrid however) and I'm away. just need to remember not to install too much crap as I'm going to have to reinstall again at some point, lol

8 is awesome.

Start8 / Classic shell tools stop you learning to use it [properly]. With the addition of the new windows button in 8.1 they will stop working over time, making the change even harder down the line.

It takes, like, 30 minutes dude. Jute remember, if in doubt, RTFM.

8 on a ssd boot flies.....

You think the 8.1 update is worth doing then mate?

I already learned how to use it properly before I got the classic shell, I was using it a month before I decided to get it. I just found it kind of a pain, If I had a touch screen I doubt I would have changed anything at all.

I was thinking about a proper SSD however I'd like to get a larger storage drive too (As the one I've got is a load of rubbish) so the cost would be a bit more if I purchased two drives, so I thought a hybrid would be the best bet for me, unless someone knows otherwise that they are really useless or something. :)

I'll start using win8 tiles when any single program I use supports it, even office 2013 does run in it, the classic desktop works for me much better allows easier handling of running multiple programs, the new ui of 8 just feels like a poorly supported ui addon. If you do upgrade to 8.1 only thing i noticed was i had to uninstall the nvidea 3d drivers as most games were trying to run 3d.

Maybe I'm missing something about the new UI? What is so great about it on a desktop computer with no touch screen?

Oh and not noticed mouse lag, but only played godus properly since the update, that had 2 cursors disolaying but I assumed that was a beta issue

I really like it after getting used to it. once you can disable all the tablet-style apps and just use it as a start-search interface which is now i've been using win7 for the last few years anyway, it great. fast, streamlined and functional.

Just hit that start button and start typing what you want - 3 keys later press enter and it launches :)

Can't really remember last time i searched through a start menu for an program.... though probably while at work wondering what the hell is installed on a machine.
