Not sure how many of you are buying in to this one, but whats everyones opinion so far?

Have you picked up the new rule book, has it helped or hindered your army or are you still waiting to see?

I've not gone near whfb. The clubs opinion has been stick with 7th as it works fine and 8th requires loads more models.

I've read the book already and will be picking my personal copy up on Wednesday.

On the whole I like the new set of rules. Cheap troops are now worth taking, it's no longer a case of 'bring maxed out deathstars or go home'. Gunlines get a nerf, magic gets a nerf and the emphasis is now on an actual battle rather than a skirmish. I also believe that the game is more tactical and relies more on gameplay rather than list building to win.

The meta was getting stale and 8th has shaken it up a lot - which I believe is a good thing.

Honestly I love the move in both elements of GW games to 'troops f**king matter'. I also enjoy that troops and tactics with an over riding strategem are the essence to success in battle.

On that note it is a wonder to no longer see the one man/woman death machines wandering around the place killing everything, and I personally love it. Anyhting is vulnerable.

I have to say though it stinks of moneh still. And by that: more sold is more money, I like the rules but from what I know of behind the scenes (Some reading this and many who will not) I find that the motive may well be perversive to improving a game and simply improving sales.

A distinct and frankly characteristic tell.

Clearly GW need to make money. they are a listed company and have to appease share holders. So if they can tweak a set of rules that encourages people to buy more of X or Y then its go to be in their interests to do so.

If the rules make sense though then why not. Ive not gone down the Whfb route as it doesnt appeal to me - plus there so much other stuff i want to try (Flames of War and Firestorm Armada in particular) but i can see from a business perspective why they would encourage people to go to mass troops - more money for them.

I agree mate, thats why I dont particularly mind it, it makes for such a better game and now they do things in the plastic sets its simply not an issue any more.

No one can lambast a company for making money its what they are there for for christs sake but one can question motives surely?

Do let me know about fire storm armada though, I was looking at that myself and wondered after getting some of it after reading through the rules and such.

Ive not read the rules yet but feel Battlefield gothic is simply stagnating me into a GW only wargamer so i wanted to look for alternative (ie flames of war, firestorm etc)

im still in open debate. Will probabyl grab a starter + rules at some point in the near future.
