Help! Just got Broadband so went and got Zonealarm from Tucows. Today I was firing up IE6 and a file attempted to access the internet. The naughty file was scanregw.exe. Should this try and acces to the web? I am not dead techy but know a litle bit - enough to get by most of the time - I wouldnt have thought that this sort of proggy woul need, or be able to go on the net. I ran Nortons (up to date) at once an no viruses are present. I have also run the codered and nimda tools fom Sarc in the last 2 days. Anyone help on this? It seems just the sort of thing that a virus/Trojan would do but im coming up clean>

hmm - strange - since this is a little proggy which basicy checks and backups ya registry incase of failure - there is no need for it to access the internet.

It could however be a virus or trojan - which is named differently - like ScAnReGW.exe - but since win98 - maybe 2k/xp too - just displays it all lowercase - it looks like regular scanregw.exe. However i dont believe that it should have access to the net - so dont give it access - u can always change it later if it all goes a bit pete tong!

You might find that a program such as AdAware is useful to you. Basically, it searches your system for any spyware and reports it to you. You can then decide what to do with it. It's free from the link above.
