The tier 8 ISU-152 is a fantastic tank.

heh, my mate one-shotted an is-3 in one of those. 1500 damage in one shot is that? it was 100% before the hit. gone. poof!

i'm moving slowly up that line towards it. very slowly.

The ISU is nasty and the reason im heading up the Russian line atm...on top of trying to get a tier 10 heavy, messing about with the Brits and Chinese, oh and Arty....too much to do.

Thats an ammo rack right there ;) When your ammo rack HP (hidden stat) hits 0 it explodes and the tank dies, same thing for when your fuel tank takes a hit, when it reaches 0 hp your tank catches fire (theres also a % chance to catch fire when your engine is hit). It's a big problem on the IS-3 (type 59 seems to have similar problems as I one shot them reasonably often), i have to repair my ammo rack almost every game in the IS-3 and the amount of times i'v repaired it only for the next shot to damage it again is pretty annoying :(.

Artillery are ok to play when there are only one or two on a team, any more than that and there is too much competition for targets and it ruins the game for normal tanks. Tier 5 is the best tier for arty, your shells start doing serious damage and your reload isn't too bad. Higher tier than that isn't much fun, you avoid taking any risky shots since you will be reloading (and relocating to avoid counter battery) for the next 40 seconds...

I don't really like how random artillery is aswell. You can have a game where you line up every shot perfectly and hit every time, then the next game you line up the shots exactly the same and miss every time.

Do you happen to know the difference between the two seperate lines of Russian tanks destoryers from tier 7 up?

I also noticed they announced british tank destoryers for 8.4.

The old line (SU-152) is all about massive alpha but they are not very agile, if a tank gets around you and you don't have any friendlies around, you will die. They don't have any armor until tier 9 when they start getting nice frontal armor.

The new line (SU-100m1)
Mixed bag really, the t7 really lacks penetration (and damage) so you need to find weird sniping flank spots. It is agile and has a little bit of armor. Bad gun depression.

The t8 i found alright (once you get the top gun - horrific before that), its got just enough penetration for weakspots combined with great agility and the armor isn't bad either. Ammo is very expensive for a tier 8 that only does 3xx damage, without premium you will make a loss most games. Oh yeah... and one final thing, HORRIFIC gun depression combined with rear mounting = you can't use many of the normal td spots as your gun will be pointing at the sky.

The t9 is more of the same, the gun finally gets good penetration and you are still agile but you have no armor at all, if you get into a brawl with anything its pretty much whoever has more hp wins.

T10 I think is just the T9 but with decent frontal armor and its open topped so arty will ruin your day.

Having played up both to tier 9, the old line is by far the most fun. The new line is a weird mix (medium guns on tank destroyers) that are just difficult to do well in.

Just started playing again and really enjoying it.

I found some low level gift tank which was worth 150,000 credits so sold that and bought a Hetzer which is great fun.

Wasn't interested in the British tanks until I saw people raving about the Matilda so I got through the first three tiers ASAP and bought one. Damn but they're good fun. There's a howitzer but I like the uber accurate, high penetration gun for sniping. Matildas also have high armor and a knack of bouncing lots of incoming fire for little damage.

Just bought a T-28 and working on that to get to the KV-1. The Matilda is a keeper so working on getting that to elite. I want the StuG III but the Hetzer is fun so not bothered about rushing.

I'm also struggling through the German lights tanks as the VK2801 is supposed to be good but it's heavy going.

I shall get to the StuG one day.

Just took the opposition 34 hits to kill my Matilda whist I was shooting the crap out of them.

Finally got my KV1, as suggested. (Had it before, but did terrible in it and moved on very quickly).

I love this tank, so much fun :) Cheers for the heads up guys.

I think that as I played a lot of paper US heavies that it taught me to play a bit better than I did before when I tried a KV.

Crew all newbies, but doing good so far.

Tempted to sell my T29, but it took ages to grind for and elite, so I guess I'll keep it.

Just started at the weekend unlocking tier 4 tanks, and main thing I noticed was that new maps + a new tank (t28) = not much fun. Bought myself a locust to help get the money together to buy the A-20 and T-50, I know the T-28 leads to the KV-1 but it's but's so un-enjoyable to play I think I'll only do one win a day in it for the bonus XP and then get back to the lights and TD.

And sorry Git (I'm assuming it was you) for not replying, it was me on Sunday but I didn't even realise little windows popped up down there, took for just over half an hour to spot the message by which time you had logged.

One interesting thing to me was I really didn't enjoy the T-46 compare to the BT-7 when I first got them, but now finding I'm having more fun in it, and tending to fair better, I guess you really need to upgrade the bits before you can get a real feel for a tank

It does get better as you learn each map and where to go.

Early tiers are faster and I find good fun, picking on noobs with my TD that thinks it is a medium the wonderful T18 :D

Also, only fools rush in.

Don't try and be the first to the frontline; you'll die horribly and quickly. The only exception is if you're a capable scout tank. Otherwise, stick with the big boys and act as a scavenger; wait until others are engaged in battle, then try and get a few shots in from a flank. Run and gun in other words.

Also if you're spotted, fire off a shot or two, then find a new position, otherwise arty will lock in on you.

SEE (points out the text above to Gottaa)

Id add the caveat "and the skills and experience to drive it"

There is no point being the first anywhere if you have no idea where you are going, what's round the other corner and where your opponents camp, or where the fields of fire are. You are making all the classic mistakes, you get focused on the kill so stop soon as you see someone, regardless of where you are or how safe you are.

TBH i think i probably hindering your learning of the game Gottaa rather than helping. The only way to learn is to get frustrated enough to start thinking why am i constantly dying.

Fast, agile tanks should IMHO be played with caution, its speed is no defence, any half decent tanker can lead the shot to kill them. The speed and agility allows you to take advantage of situations and relocate as the battle unfolds.

My favourite tank at the moment is the Black Prince, its lack of speed (20kph) makes you think about what you want to achieve and how to do it with a lovely sniper gun. Matilda Black Prince, even more so, nice fast all round gun for the tier, in a tank that moves like a slug.

Luck can play a huge part in this game, especially at low tiers as people don't react as you would expect them to react.

Pfft, learn by doing ! (And I know you'd point out that first line Cad ;))

I am 100% playing my TD wrong at the moment and that's because I get into the light tank mindset and then jump into the TD and get ... "educated" in what a silly person I am being.

Main thing I'm learning in maps at the moment is where a good place to go is, and infact learning often from where I find the enemy TD when I'm in a light, the trouble is the map selection seems to have jumped massively, while you are introduced I think slowly to maps in T1 and T2, T3 seems abit more random and T4 just painful, I may end up infact loitering in T3 until I'm happy with all the maps and encounters (or at least don't get that "WTF is this map, where do I go ?" feeling). It's a shame though my T3 TD seems to not get as wide a selection of maps as my T-46 does.

Cheers for the explanation on the second russian TD line.

The main problem I currently have with the european server as I noticed over the weekend it peaked just over 160k players, that majority of players are quite immature, no team play, everyone calls each other noobs or other names when things don't go to plan.

Having played over 2.5k battles it does get frustrating even if I mainly only play artillery and some of the time I can ignore the chat and just concentrate on people who requesting fire support in a particular location.
I have also gone up to the T28 USA TD Line which I enjoyed last year but couldn't find the energy to push for the T95.
I have about 25+ tanks in my collection having played the russian and US heavies, and even with all the energy and money poured into my account I still cant find myself playing on the euro server much. So I created an account on the US server and do find people over there much more mature, especially when it is early morning weekend as there is about 12-14k players on compare to the 90k on the euro server at the same time.

It certainly gives me a reminder of where to create my World of Warship account when that finally released for beta later this year.

I suppose one way to deal with the issue to find myself a squad to join which might help.

Think of TDs as snipers; deadly at range but fucked up-close.
