World of Tanks

I actually had a few good matches last night getting the x3 XP, caused havoc behind enemy lines in my Locust and yet ended the game on 92% health but 3 kills and 6 tanks shot, then got in my TD, hid in a bush on a hill and made alot of holes. And while we didn't win the match in my T-28 I was finally feeling useful, took out three enemy tanks and held a pinch point simply by waiting and not trying to play "peek-a-boo".

One question with the T-28, the next turret up has the same armour, slightly slower turn speed but a wide viewing angle (or maybe it was distance) is that a good trade off ?

Biggest issue with playing together in WoT I see is how you communicate, as that chat window I assume only pops up in the garage ? And as Pegasus says the general chat is worth ignoring so I don't in general bother focusing on it

there is general chat in games, and in the garage a little tab at the bottom appears (which I only found out about at the weekend), but generally just quickly platoon up with friends seems to need some organising as it isn't overly obvious (well for me it isn't)

Not sure about the T-28 but there are often hidden stat bonuses when getting the upgraded turret. First you will get some extra hitpoints (I'm guessing at around 30 for that tier), there may also be a small bonus to reload speed for certain guns. Really the turret upgrade is almost always worth getting, The only time I have kept using the stock turret was for the Sherman Jumbo (the upgraded has 50mm side/rear armor compared to 152mm on the stock).

The T-28 generally gets its ass handed to it if it gets in a pissing contest with any other tank.

The 57mm ZiS-4 is a great gun for sitting back and sniping though. It's also pretty quick so you can run away with some success.

If you like sniping then pick a hiding spot to benefit from scouts spotting targets or skulk along behind your heavies and get a few cheap shots in whilst the enemy is distracted.

Have they taken away the "T" button to tell your team mates which tank you are attacking? As Artillery it was very useful, all I see now is the F2 to request fire support on a position.

Yes, the 'T' button was removed and now it is F2. I was reading about this only yesterday trying to find out how to alert people to shoot at what I was targeting :)

The commands do differant things in differant situations now.

F2 will request fire when you are in a tank or if you are in an SPG it will tell people what you are firing at. If you are aiming at a friendly I think it does something else aswell.

I use the help one quite often targetted on a few friendlies if I can see i'm going to be defending half the map by myself again, People do seem to take more notice when they see their name pop up rather than just saying "help" and everyone blindly driving on with the lemming train hoping someone else will do it.

Might be how u tell a friendly to back off or stuff.

Had some good players specifically ask me in chat to follow or fire on...etc.

Question - German TDs or Russian TDs for sniping?

Not enjoying my US wolverine (liked the T40)

Thinking that German TDs best suited for sniping, but Russians have lower profiles & less accurate guns?

Yeah the StuG III is a bunch of fun; fast and agile enough to get around the map, decent reload time and packs a real punch.

I was kinda thinking that as I am heading down the KV-IS line anyway, that some of the guns researched on the way seem to be used on the Russian TDs, but I am after a long range sniper type and German seem to be most favoured for that.

Is that correct and are Russian TDs ok, if you shoot and move positions?

I don't think guns are shared between TD's and tanks, I can't think of any atleast. Some get guns that are almost exactly the same thing outside of the name as the heavy tank counterpart (probably a slight accuracy/rof boost or some such) but you still need to unlock them. Many of the radios and engines will be shared though.

There isn't a great deal of differance between the German and Russian lines until you reach tier 7. Both have no real armor (except hetzer), are decently mobile and have reasonably accurate guns.

My opinion might not be that valid though, as I very very rarely make much use of the camo on TD's. If i'm behind a bush i'm usually 10m behind it so camo isn't really playing a part.
