That's the age-old gameplay vs. graphics debate. Gameplay wins every damn time for me, which is why I don't limit myself to just playing PC games. I genuinely believe that, although different in such areas as content, structure, presentation, etc, many console games are simply more fun to play (not ports of course, as they're usually very similar regardless of platform). Developers tend to spend more time creating a game than they do a stunning piece of code- due to technological limitations, for example.

I have a great love for consoles for fighting / driving games as i don't think they transfer well enough onto PC's to be effective, though vice-versa i've yet to see a decent FPS go the other way. Goldeneye was a good game, but it's exclucivity to the N64 platform made it impossible to see how much better it would have been on a PC.

Its all our fault really. There have been a few innovative PC games released this year that tried something different and fairly original. No bugger bought them though and now a couple of the developers were/are on the verge of going under because of it.

You can't blame publishers and devs for releasing Stagnant Football Game 51 every year if the sheep buying gaming public are scared to look at anything even remotely off the beaten track.

PC devs need to get back to why we chose a PC for gaming in the first place and not try to compete with the consoles by spending millions on new graphics engines but spend more time on playability and innovation.

And another thing. How the fook does anyone play FPS's with a joypad. I had a go of the demo machine with COD2 in my local emporium and its just awul.

Ah but that's always the case, isn't it. Look at recent titles such as Psychonauts and Darwinia - both great games, but people didn't buy them in their droves. Mostly this is down to poor communication of the key messages of the product - the job of PR/marketing, but sometimes its simply that people won't take a risk and try something new.

It's just learning mate. Takes some time, and imo is never as satisfying as mouse/keyboard, but it's do-able. I found the most helpful thing is to invert the y-axis. That makes a huge difference in my world...

Psyconauts and Darwinia got very good reviews in probably the two biggest PC games mags in the UK mate. Same with Fahrenhiet. I also remember seeing some ads for these games.

I think in some sick way the majority of gamers want these re-hashes rammed down their throats every year.

People tend to buy within their comfort zones. Anything that is difficult to grasp conceptualy, or even differs from the norm. is generally feared.

Well you cant blame me, iv always bought innovative games. Those two included, and iv also try to say there damn good on these here forums. No one listens though.

Oh and thats also why i dont buy games you can get on a console, i always buy the PC version. I waited for Halo on the PC, i waited for Fable as well.
Buying games that are available on both formats and buying the console version isnt doing the PC market much good.

I have a PS2 but only have a handful of games for it. Final Fantasy X, X-2. But i mainly use it to workout and everyone uses it to watch DVD's. I must have hundreds of games for my PC. Want me to list them?

When i had a SNES back when the PC market was just picking up and becoming its own media for games. I was planing on getting a N64 but never did. Never got into the PS1 craze most of the stuff that was on that you could get for the PC

I picked up a 360 last Friday, don't ask how much I paid for it, let's just say an opportunity presented itself shortly after finding out I had a very nice Xmas bonus from work and I couldn't resist lol.

Currently loving it, in fact it's one of the few things that's managed to drag me away from FFXI recently. :)

Anyway, if anyone wants to add me to their friendlist then you're more than welcome, gamertag is "Minny".

Looking forward to shooting some of you guys in the head in CoD2 soon. ;)

Edit:

Ooh, almost forgot, anyone looking to renew their xbox live membership or sign up for 12 months on 360 should go check out Gamestation. They've currently got an offer on the live+PGR2 starter packs, just 19.99 if bought with anything else in store... and yes that is absolutely anything, any cost. On 360 it acts as a 12 month xbox live gold membership which normally costs 39.99!!

I picked one up yesterday when I bought CoD2, worked like a charm, the bundled classics version of PGR2 doesn't actually work on 360 so I'll just trade that back another time to save a few more quid. :)

Was anyone after a 360 before a friend puts one he has on Ebay? Its brand new. It has been opened but only to plug it in to see if it works. Has a copy of Kameo as well which is brand new unopened.

He is after 400 and will cover delivery costs for it.

I read that ebay Xbox 360s are pretty much just reaching RRP now, although that could be wrong and I can't check from work as teh ebay r blockz0r3d.

Although 400 isn't too bad I guess with a game and postage..... Still, no HDTV so no 360 for now for me :)

I had a look on Ebay at some recently completed listings before I put it up as I didn't want anyone on here to get a bad deal. Some Premiums recently went for 380ish with no game and not including delivery so I thought my mate was being quite reasonable with his valuation.

It looks great on a normal TV through the scart mate tbh. Its great on the 2405 although you need the VGA HD cable for best picture. :)

Just read this on the Xbox 360 FFXI FAQ:

Will I need anything aside from the Xbox 360 console and Xbox 360 Controller to play FINAL FANTASY XI?

Both PlayOnline and FINAL FANTASY XI support the use of a standard USB Keyboard. While it is possible to access all functions through the Xbox 360 controller, the addition of a USB Keyboard will make functions such as entering text much more convenient.

So the XBox 360 supports a mouse & keyboard!!! FPS & MMORPG 4tehw1n!! :D :D :D

To make matter worse you could make them wireless mouse and keyboard for sitting on the sofa wtf pwning people in your game of choice on the 360 with the only addition being a small beer fridge next to your sofa :)

P.S Anyone getting a 360 should get the one with all the knobs and whistles (HDD,wireless controller, play and charge cable, the remote) cos the core one in comparisson is a rip off.

Oh and if you have a Windows media OS you could have the 360 in another room and watch content on the media PC wirelessly (or wired) from the 360.

With the crowning glory being able to link your gamertag in your sig so we can not only see what you are playing, how far you are through but also how good/bad you are online :)
