Xbox Wireless issues

Everytime I switch on my xbox it wont connect to xbox live and says there is a network issue. It detects the network fine but the ip address it gets isnt one issued by my network.

I have followed all the instructions from the websites and as normal from MS they are useless.

If I restart the router it works until I turn the xbox off again then it assigns itself this silly ip address again.

The ip it gives itself is 169.254.58.35

I have tried issuing it as a static ip but then it seys it needs NAT opening even though it is.

Any ideas?

169.254.x.x is an IP address I'd expect to see on a device which has been told to use DHCP but finds itself unable to contact a DHCP server.

Assuming your router is acting as the DHCP server and given the fact the XBox connects every time you reset the router, I'd be tempted to think the router was the problem.

If you haven't changed anything in the router config recently and can't see anything that's likely to be the problem, try backing up the config and updating the firmware and/or doing a factory reset before re-entering the settings manually.

Ta, been trying to find a firmware update for it but belkin dont seem to have one on their site for this model which is damn annoying. Will be emailing them later to rip them a new one for shoddy support.

ahhh Belkin u say.......

Had the same issue with my Belkin router (posted 3 years ago about it here!) and I was until today using a wired belkin router. I had to put the xbox in the DMZ bit to get it to work. Oddly the next time I had to install the router I didn't need to do this.

I've just got a netgear router today and connected again no probs so far :)

The info about setting up the xbox for the router setup was here http://hushedcasket.com/node/1724

Tried most of that swither but it suggests putting the xbox in the DMZ. My router wont load the DMZ page (which is one of the reasons I want the non existant firmware update).

Anyone know a reliable site for updates as the ones I see I dont know if I can trust.

F5D8633-4 is the model I need it for.

Or recommend a decent N grade Wireless router.

Never had a problem with Netgear for home use (their business kit seems utter cock).

Personally I like DrayTek (2710N looks nice) but they're expensive.

I sent feedback to Belkin about how it was the worst site for support I had ever seen and they sent me a link to the firmware update.

Seems to be working fine now :)

And the feedback mentioned they never reply to it too :)

I'm still waiting for Belkin support to call me to arrange sorting out my router....that was from the 25th Jan :(

Got a netgear and no problems at all :)
