360 with HDMI question

A question which someone here may know the answer to.

I have the new Elite all setup plugged into my Onkyo AMP so I get surround sound, and then the AMP feeds the TV, this setup works fine on the PS3, but I keep getting cut-outs on the 360 where I keep sound but the image goes, either to a screen of static or just black and it appears to be changing aspect ratio (but not sure if the TV is just defaulting to a power on setting). While I was setting up my avatar this was happening about once a minute, but didn't appear to happen while actually playing, and now it seems to have started doing that, while I was playing Borderlands this morning.

Have I got myself a faulty 360 or is there some special setting I need ?

I'm sure it isn't the telly or amp as it doesn't happen on anything else, and I have tried the 360 on the same port on the AMP that the PS3 uses and it's the same story.

Edit: PIECE OF *($, from what I've read looks like I have one which is gonna RROD soon, I assumed getting a new console this wouldn't *$( happen again ...... Now it's a case of will Amazon deal with it quickly or do I need to return it to MS :/

Never got the hdmi to work with any xbox I've had replaced....I just use the plugs.

Roch et al have no probs with the hdmi it seems so it might be my cable.

I use HDMI on my Elite and works fine, though I use no amp it just plugs straight to the back of my Samsung tv. Works nicely.

I've tried the same cable the PS3 uses, and direct to the TV, it's the same issue, appears after speaking to MS I'm just unlucky :(

The HDMI cable - all you connect to the tv and xbox is just the hdmi cable right? It does sound and image?

Or am I being a muppet and you need to connect other cables too?

Mutley !!
Yes, the HDMI cable conveys the sound and image to the tv (or amp then tv (this needs 2 cables)).

I'm just plugging the HDMI cable from the 360 to the amp, and that is definately working, in Borderlands you can spin around and get sound of the all the correct speakers, which I like as it helps me locate things quicker.

I'm fairly convinced it's just a duff 360, which does confuse me as I though all the new one's didn't suffer the old issues, it'll get a fairly good play over the weekend with borderlands and MW2, if it blows up it'll be going back, if it keeps doing the same it'll either go back to MS for repair or Amazon for a refund. Main thing is it happens before xmas as I have some time to play then as don't want to be stuck with one console not working

aye it works fine on PS3 and Sky HD (though does need digitial audio cable to get surround on the Sky box cos Sky are rubbish, Imagine making an HD box which doesn't support surround sound over HDMI, it needs a seperate cable ... idiots). I'm 99.9% sure it's just a duff 360

Well after fiddling at the weekend I found 1080i works fine without a glitch, 1080p seems to be more than the 360 wants to deal with, so I'll live with it till after xmas just incase, then return it in Jan to get it fixed.

And while I'd agree as a machine PS3 has advantages on the 360 I don't have to wait for installs on the 360 and I do find the controller/headset setup much better, bluetooth headset on PS3 = a pain.

I have Borderlands on both consoles and yet I keep playing on the 360 version over the PS3 one, I think it's the call of achievments over trophies or whatever the PS3 call them
