About time - no more shared xp debt

Said when the game launched they would have to change this system once too many players left; it only took them eight months too. Throw in a few more starting locations and drop the multi class system and I might give it another go.

From the beta server, (its ok, NDA lifted) but should be hitting live servers soon!

*** Experience Debt Changes ***

- There is now a 50% cap for both adventure and tradeskill experience debt. You can no longer accrue more than 50% of your level in experience debt. If you have more than 50% experience debt when you log on after this change, any experience debt greater than 50% will be removed.
- You will no longer share experience debt for the deaths of other members of your group. Only the person in the group who dies will gain experience debt.
- NOTE: This is currently in testing, and may not go to Live servers in its current form. If further changes are needed, they will be made.

*** Encounter Locking Changes ***

- Encounter locking restrictions have been relaxed for non-raid encounters.
- Raid encounters should continue to behave exactly as before with the previous encounter locking rules.
- Non-raid encounters have been changed as follows:
- There are no longer lock icons on you or your enemies.
- The first group or person to attack a creature will receive any reward it grants upon death, including loot and experience.
- Other players can assist in your fight by damaging your enemies or healing you.
- You will receive a reduced XP reward if your group contributes less than 50% of the damage needed to kill something.
- You can change group options and add/remove people from groups while fighting (note that fighting raid encounters still prevents this).
- Damage credit is correctly tracked if you add people helping you to the group before something dies.
- Any faction increase or decrease the creature grants will be applied to everyone the creature hates when it dies.

50% debt ?

Im in a raid guild that raids 5 days outta 7 and have never got anywhere near that.

I think the most ive ever had was when we were learning Darathar and it was at about 14%.

Was Turm

Personally, I am unhappy with the removal of the shared exp debt. It was a way of promoting teamwork, making sure that jobs that are more risky than others (MT being more at risk of being pummeled to death in case of lag than a Bard is) get some much needed help. If the MT died and the group managed to turn the fight around, the shared exp debt for everybody was a whooping 3 kills. Not really a huge effort needed to help the MT regain the exp he lost while tanking for my sorry ass (Troubador here).

But then, everybody is entitled to their opinions.

Yay Removal of shared EXP debt!

Being a level 50 monk I rarely ever die (though I do laught as raids wipeout arround me, and now I can train my group and FD! woo) shared exp debt was the only thing ever giving me debt nowdays. 50% Debt as a cap...Like Turm I can't ever think of getting near that, 5% at most i've had. Imagen trying to get rid of 50% debt! owch.

No more locked encounters sounds good, step back again though (why does it take them 10months to learn things in EQ1 were better, interesting to see how this works for quest updates)

Flight : Multiclass system imho is brilliant and better than EQ1s class system by miles (not that thats hard) mix in something like the WoW alternative advnacement with the amount if classes avaliable would be nice to see (if they could still keep it as balanced as it is now), agreed on the starting locations I would have liked to see many smaller locations with the bulk of questing in shared areas.

All in all i'm really looking forward to the next expansion, it took 2 expansions for EQ1 to really get anywhere good but they already have a better basis for starting.

Edit: I do understand your point Dara, though from my experiance if the MT dies everyone else does within 30seconds. Very rarely can MTs be swapped on raids, plus there is really no need to do it. EQ1 had the need because of the defensive stance being so good but only lasting 3mins(?) nothing really like that in EQ2.

I always thought shared XP debt on death was a good idea.

Ok, if you get a twat in the group it's a pain, other than that if the group shares, XP, Loot etc why not the XP debt for a death. It always seemed a little odd that particular classes tend to bare the brunt of XP loss in a group whilst other classes (with Feign Death for example) share in the plus side of the group but not so much of the downside.

You gain equal XP as a group so you should risk losing equally XP as a group.

Just seemed a fair way to do things to me...

Sort of agree Nym, but then as a monk personally i'm glad it's gone!

It will encourage grouping with people who don't know one another though, before more than a few people wouldn't group up for fear of being given exp debt by somone, at least now it will encourage grouping with unknowns more. As well as make other people play a bit more carefully when in groups as they are responsible for there own debt.

Within raids forget the old EQ where the MT/enchanters would die the most, really can be anyone whos not paying attention now.

Evac for teh win. :)

Jokes aside, I can see your point for raids, but in exp groups, I often evacced the group when the MT went down (although I have often managed to time evac to shortly before the tank would have dropped - once even evacced when the MT was unconscious).

As far as exp debt goes, I have died 12 or 13 times with my Bard in 45 levels... Too much to suit me, but I still never had more than 5% exp debt, ever.

I imagine you've never been in the Commune of K'Dhal then??
Or paid a visit to the Krathuk??
Or been on the receiving end of the Darthar bug that continues to wipe out the raid group after he flies away??

The first time we were in the Commune learning it I was nekked and onto my spare set of armour before we killed the bugger. That was about 10% and the most I've ever had after graduating from my noobishness.

I imagine however that with the expansion noobishness will once again rear its ugly head and you could see some people dying more often.

It is a good thing though especially in pick-up groups where you can let the idiot you just picked up run into a group of his favourite mobs, watch him die and then evac with no downsides at all :)
