From what I read its a free game but then an upgraded version for sale.
Only problem is its not a FPS its an RTS really .
Couple of bits on the above points.
What features will you be adding to the commercial version of Full Spectrum Warrior?
We are still working on our plans for additional features, but the commercial version of FSW will include features that round out the title and satisfy mass-market and hardcore gamers with an immersive, engaging world and realistic soldiers.
Can you control individual soldiers? Can you shoot from a first person POV?
FSW is based on controlling squads of men. It was created to teach squad leaders how to command, not to simulate individual control of soldiers. While we may let you give individual fire sectors in the final game, letting you have full control of an individual soldier disrupts the flow of the game and actually removes you from your command position.

Yeah, I know some people who have seen it running and have heard good things.
It's a squad leader type thing where you are giving orders as well as partaking. Rainbow 6 is probably the nearest thing I've been able to gather it is like from the descriptions I have heard.
Got Rainbow 6 Raven Shield delivered the other day, looking forward to playing a bit of that, loved the original.

I'm with you mate. I got Rainbow 6 and it's good as FPS but don't really like the squad side of things - that's why AA is so good since the squad is actually everyone else.
