WoW is evil.

Repent ye sinners!

My housemate (Defiler, some of you may remember) plays WoW.

I haven't seen him for more than 10 minutes every couple of days for several years now. I think he'd melt in sunlight these days.

On a serious note. What do you reckon the future of WOW holds?
Do you think they'll make alot more expansions, or start working of WOW2 - or keep Wow running and start on a completely new MMO?

I read somewhere there will be one expansion after that, and then they are going to call it. Whether the game will survive until then I'mm not sure, however their next MMO should be out by then.
The next expansion, Maelstrom, is well under way according to sources, however I can't see it having more than 1-2 more years left in it. There is only so long you can keep reinventing the wheel before you realise it's just a round thing.

I generally got the feeling alot of people are playing WOW simply because the alternatives are so rubbish and they are waiting for something better to come along now. Not that i'm saying WOW isn't anygood it's just 4-5 years old now alot of it's playerbase has been there for along time and maybe become tired of it and I doubt they can give it a totally radical overhaul to completely freshen it up - I suspect they next expansion will do the same as the last two - 10 levels of questing, some new talents and maybe a new class or more.
But until something better turns up then it'll remain popular - the next big thing will more than likely come from Blizzard anyway so they I doubt they are that bothered :)

As someone who wasnt that interested in Warcraft before WoW, I kinda wish they would make a Diablo based one.

Blizz are making a new MMO, but they said it won't be any of the existing franchises Diablo, Starcraft etc.

aion looks like grindy korean crap, followed by pvp. i'll give it a chance though, as allegedly its changed a lot with the localization.

I never quite understand that from die-hard MMO'ers, surely if something is really grindy it just means it keeps you busy for longer ? I mean maxed out in WoW all you have to do is repeat daily quests and raids over and over, the only difference is the leveling curve has some of that daily grinded added to the lower levels as well.

I still recommend Free Realms, lots to do even when you don't play, and the connection stability seems much better now than it was at release. Or Monster Hunter if you have a PSP, having a ball with that :)

daily quests and raids arnt grinding though. yes you *can* grind in wow, but you dont have to.

killing 1000 mobs, of the same type, in the same location, for no reason other than a bit of cash and a level or 2 of exp... thats grindy.
i dont play mmos to 'keep me busy' i play them to have fun. i dont find farming the same mobs for hours on end fun.

lolz noob.

As with Aion - I've heard they have added a whole swathe of PvE content in the Korean version, which is up to 1.6 or something similar. The EU servers that are being beta tested are on 1.1 though and they are only doing very focussed testing in closed beta at the moment mainly focussing on the localisation as the game itself works fine in Korea. More rumours exist about even more "westernisation" as they want the game to be big in EU/NA and realise the many, many mistakes made in the past trying to get westerners into eastern games.

Whether or not it's just a pile of hot air (which is impossible as it would dissipate too rapidly to pile up unless you did it under intense pressure, forming metallic oxygen) or not is difficult to tell.

I'm definitely planning on checking out FFIVX however.

To be honest, the only people who know what's going to happen next are all at Blizzard, and they're not about to go telling anyone. Most of people are saying is wild--and incorrect--speculation.

Will it last? Absolutely. It's not just a question of something coming along that "does it better" as I think WoW has done the 'traditional' MMO better than anyone has or will. I think it'll take something completely new to come along to see similar numbers of subscribers in a game.

I thought Lotro was decent, or at least the beta was. The problem was the WOW was still fresh when that was released and I didn't think it did enough to make me swap games. Warhammer was dire though, the concept was decent but the execution was really bad, so many poor design bits and I only saw the first couple of zones - I can't believe people defended that game and I bet not many are still playing it ;)
