Anybody still / again playing EQ?

While bored I decided to check out EQ again and noticed that due to the Station hack, I had 45 free days on my account, so I can play a while without having to pay anything.

So I have started EQ again on the good old Bristlebane server, trying out the new stuff, playing through some old stuff, etc.

Since chat seems mostly dead, I have been wondering whether anybody here is still playing or whether you know anybody that is still playing? Would be nice to have someone to chat with and bother with stupid questions about the stuff I forgot in the last 7 years. :)

I've jumped back on a couple of times in the intervening years and it's just to painful to play compared to modern titles. How the hell we put up with it for so long is beyond me :)

The good old times of when you had to meditate you stared at your spellbook (I'm pretty sure you could still see chat though not 100% sure), everyone's spellbooks were much more organised in those days :)

And if you had a Fungi Tunic, it meant from level 1 to 20 as a mellee you basically never needed to stop fighting and rest !

Shocking game played now, but alot of good memories, but there best left as those, don't revisit them, come play WoW !

I dunno, I am having fun. Yes, it is more painful than the other games, but also so much more fun when you succeed. :)

I tried out WoW, but I felt it was nothing special.

ahh EQ, when Risk Vs Reward actually meant something, when questing was questing and not just following onscreen instructions, when getting to one end of Norrath to the other meant a 2 hour adventure full of danger and risk and the overhanging threat of lost exp and being sent back to your bind point. When catching a boat was more dangerous than soloing dragons and completing an epic quest took about as long as excavating the pyramids.

Damn I miss that game lol.

I did revisit about a year after I quit tho, but couldnt deal with it, and now Fu have finally split I don't think I would have any reason to go back. Its not exactly a game you can just pop into for 30 mins of an evening :)

The best thing i remember about EQ, and after 6 years of wow i know im not looking at this through rose tinted glasses is how you could get 80 people from one side of the world to the other, raid buffed and engage a target in less than 10 minutes.

Now in wow, i struggle to see 10 people move 2 zones and achieve the same.

From what I remember, Caddie, it was more like 60 minutes to 90 minutes. ;-) I know that those of us that were reasonably quick in travelling almost died of boredom waiting for those that were not. ;-)

And actually, with the introduction of mercenaries, at least in the low levels I have not had any problems whatsoever with logging in, playing 30 minutes and logging off. But then, I had to start over as I gave my account away. Darn me, earning money is a pain in the low levels, at least they added good armour to the game that is reasonably easy to get.

Surprisingly, they actually changed a lot of the annoying things in the game, at least in the very low levels. My SK is currently level 22 and it is good fun so far. :)
