BlackIce detects / warns against virii

Just discovered the home version of Blackice now detects virii which are hiding behind double extensions.

The Event ID is email_Virus_Double_Extensions Whilst im not prepared to test this on my home box it should neuter the code and prevent it working if youre mad enough to click the file.

Lets see Zone do that then ;-) Oh and it works with ICS too .. hehe

BTW mostly as Git is the only one who uses this - the August code release will rock. Having seen whats in it, and whats coming all I can say is Bout ****ing time too. Generic Buffer overflow protection (would kill MS Blaster and Sasser dead) and something called Virus Protection system - a non sig based virus engine which so far since Nov has detected and stopped 100% of the virus that have been released with no code update.

is it free? that's where zone alarm wins for me. cheap is gut.

I tried ZA and it never worked how I wanted it to work, I then tried out Blackice, and liked it so much I bought the full version.

I was most impressed when it caught the sasser worm before the code update, it had gotten onto the PC, but the application protection stopped it cold before it could complete it's infection.

Yeah- can u try Black Ice free for a period? I'd give it a go if u could.

We used to use Blackice with windows 98 on the 4 pc network we had at home before we got the router. that was until it started crashing the server machine every 2 weeks, totally unable to send/receive data without reinstalling windows. then we upgraded to xp and couldn't find a version that worked with it. this good then zed? looking for a decent software firewall now, don't think the one in my router is much cop.

Of course id say its good i work for the company...

Its very different to how ZA works or most of the other PfW's as its not really a firewall more of an intrusion prevention system.

Itll run fine now on XP.

As for free - Sadly not. Were trying to convince Product management to put out the current version as free. however popular 'ahem' search engines could aid you in that departmet. I rarely get hold of the BlackIce keys either (have lots of the keys for the enterprise product - pretty much the same) so I couldnt give you one.
