Call of Cthulhu game?

Anyone fancy a Call of Cthulhu PBF game? Looking for a small number (4) players who fancy this, probably 1 or 2 posts max a week.

I would be interested in this. The mainstay of my college RPGing and a twisted GM made for some excellent RPing.

definately! absolutely love cthulhu games!

dont get to play it these days, cause the bloke who used to GM for it is too busy these days (and lives like 200miles away from where i work :p)

incidently, what era would it be? original (1925, iirc) or modern (delta-green stuff)? i've played both and tbh, my view of both is that the quality of the game is entirely dependant on the GM and storyline rather than the era, i'm just curious as to which itll be :p

Well we have more than enough.

Okay id prefer to run a 1920's game. Have lots and lots and lots of stuff for 1920's.

So with that in mind I have 2 questions for people..

1. What character concept - ideally id like a mix of bookish / investigative and action type characters e.g Professor, reporter, Dillenette, War veteran, PI, Police (ex/retired still serving etc)

2. England or US?

Ah this is what you were going on about last night :)

Well missed the first draft so could you put me on stand by in case you have someone drop from the group Zed?

I'd need to "aquire" the rules as well.

dont mind where it is. england tends to lead towards less weapon-heavy games, but thats in modern era - dont know in 20s.

dont especially mind character concept either... if its anything like most i've played, your former roles tend to fall apart quite quickly :p
anyway, since youve asked...
an ex-army combat medic, please :)
or if we end up with too many actiony types i'd be just as happy with something like a historian or archaeologist.

oh and sorontir, i've never seen the rules for CoC despite playing it for years. Theres no need for the players to know most of them - hell, a lot of the time its better that you dont - all you need to know is that you have a list of skills (with ratings 1-100) and a list of attributes (1-20), that tell you how good at things you are. For each task you do that needs a roll, this value will often be modified, and you'll have to roll under it on the relevant dice. (eg. one time i was lying on a roof, trying to shoot the det-cord on a load of explosives, since pressure will set off the det cord and blow this monolith thingy apart. i had a rifle skill of 79, but i actually had to roll under 20, due to the distance, the tiny target area, and the fact it was raining rather heavily. theres also rules for shooting more than one shot in a round as well, and stuff like that. But i'm sure Zed will explain these when its relevant :)

Now you've got me started Zeus I HAVE to get the rules :)

It's been one of those games that I have wanted to run for an age and I only played in it once for a single session. We didn't actually know our skills as the DM decided we should have an ambiguous guide like "Novice" or "Journeyman".

Anyway back to working on a character concept ......... erm I mean work, yeah that's what I'm doing working ;)

Your opinion is worthless....
You walk into a room armed with a revolver, appears Yog Sothothhhh and you go insane !!

one thing i did love about this game lol.

An excellent option for a DM who doesn't really want to run a game but it is their "turn".

One room, campaign over .... next DM please :)

Funny that, I was just looking at something featuring Yog Sothoth

Guess ill have to do something esle now Gits spoilt the plot. how does Nyarlathotep strike you.

One thing to note in Cthulhu. Read the book = bad. V Bad. and generally its the only game you get exp for running away from the encounter.

Oh BTW original rules none of this D20 cthulhu lark.

The one important thing I remember is if you walk into a room and there is a dark corner, walk out, close the door and run :)

When I used to play it was always much more a survival horror type affair than an actual adventure. It's a nice twist on the norm.

Perfectly spherical rooms, made from a material that resists vibration, cold and heat, formed from a single piece, isolated from the ground. Needs to be both plastic and elastic to the nth degree and if all else fails, wipe clean for the win.
