D&D 3.5 Game

Zed can you repost that link and let me know what the difference is between lite and full version. I'm guessing Lite = play, Full = DM, but don't wanna get the wrong thing.

Also is a choice of font sizes and the screenies I saw it was a little unclear for me :/

And if the wednesday thing is full or can't fit in all those who fancy giving this a spin I'm sure we/someone can sort something out :)

I'm still interested.

I take it you found an alternative to WebRPG then? Looking at it in more detail, it seems it now costs money!

Lite = allow for connecting to DM host but not hosting / running your own games.

Full - you can build and make modules and campaigns. Though its all manual atm.

Heres a picture. it all builds in the background in XML. Theres nothing obvious regarding font size increase (its fairly small as you can see) but ill find out for you

Cos zed forgot to post the link and I looked at his screenshot to remember the name :)

Does lite work with alternate rulesets as well ? Having had a little more of a look it's not 100% clear, and Talili is interested although not sure she want's to fully commit an evening to it but I'm guessing the plan will be we'll get one full and one lite version and I'd like to do the wednesday thing, but maybe someone else doing a more casual kinda thing ?

If it does actually build bits in XML I guess it couldn't be changed, unless there maybe is a default sheet it copies and I could edit that to make a larger font (this is only really for the chat stuff), the rest of it I can deal with but trying to read lots of text I'd rather it was larger :)

Wednesday is an existing day that Zed run an existing thing on. Which I will hopefully end up tagging along to, but if peeps had this app could do it any time it suits people, maybe even only once a month or whenever suits really.

Most of the alternative rules etc are done in XML. It only ships with the D20 bits and it doesnt substitute for having the books next to you when your running the game. It simply handles all of thecharacter piecse, the maps etc.

One of the players in the campaign has told me you should / can modify the font size as its small. Grab the demo to check it out.

As for the wednsday thing - its a campaign thats been running for a bout 2 months or so now. Your welcome to join us but we can also do something casual on another night (if Gottaa wanted to run something id love to jump in and play for once ) :-0)

Im sure I cann add one or two more people so If people get the client and want to run a game casually then count me in :)

Part of the problem is the GM version costs more. Can you upgrade it later if you decide to run? Can't find the answer to that question on their website.

I'm reluctant to pay money & then we don't do anything (wouldn't be the first time!)

(Unfortunately, the demo version appears to be useless -- not compatible with the full/lite version for one thing).

We could always use a pikey option to start with. If we want secure dice-rolling, we could use a java applet chat server I have the source for here. Would be trivial to add dice commands to it.

If you use any other tool you need some way of sharing maps, having tokens etc which is why the FG client rocks.

You cant ugrade it though which is a pain, you have to make a choice really - will you ever use it to run a game or not. For me its worth the investment for what it offers and allows you to do.

Back from the weekend of no sleep and tiredness (a.k.a Family Wedding) and too tired to post lots but I'll get the demo either later or tuesday (more stuff goinh on, on monday) make sure font can be changed and then if I'm happy the plan is I'll get the GM version and Talili gets the normal version (if she wanted to DM we can just swap seats), Then I'm happy to be DM and have something small to start so I learn how things work then do whatever peeps fancy on a casual basis.

I've a feeling (Corin or Cad may know better) that I have the 3.0 rules and not the latest one's so may need to hunt those down and read up on things again.

Although if we were to vote I'd say Corin runs the gnome thing he keeps threatening us with :D

And I might even (possibly) tie in mine with TS, with some additional sound effects, atmostpheric music and door creaking noises ;)

tired now, going to lie down, defo up for this though and happy to run something, although might not be Eberron as if I need to get this and the 3.5 rules will be stretching money already, and wouldn't want to flex em more with getting the Eberron campaign book.

If you have the 3.5 rules I can provide a link where you can get all the difference. Then theres the SRD (www.d20srd.org) where you can get the rules from. All you need.

Never bought 3.5. Happy to play it, but not very happy about running it, esp. if it involves buying lots of new books :)

What are the tokens for (out of curiosity)?

WebRPG can do all those fancy things, too, but we never actually used them. It *is* useful to be able to post handouts & for the GM to be able to view character sheets.

Gottaa is quite a fan of floorplans, so he'll probably enjoy that side.

Floorplans just seem to involve the players a little more, I think my first few years of pnp were kinda describing and combat wasn't really organised, then it moved onto using spare dice as players only for marching order, or sleeping layout, and kinda moved on to my now easy wipe floorplan and bits. Sometimes it can feel clunky but it's also a good way of me covering up not being a very good DM (o.s this is the point you say how great I am really ... heheh)

I think it's also alot easier having floorplans and char sheets when using a computer, in person it's easier to describe, make up, posture, etc etc so a computer based system needs those things really (and preferable something like TS, but that's asking too much I think)

Zed

My PnP games use copious floor plans and mini's for everything. 3.0 to a degree, but definately 3.5 the whole combat system is geared to using floorplans.

so byzah, would you fork out for the lite version if you don't fancy dm'ing with that kinda thing ?

Just found out I've the day to myself so gonna check the demo version out for font options.

And I had a look at the demo Zed, didn't see a way to edit the font, didn't see any XML anywhere to change it, could you ask yer friend on wednesday how this would work, it could of course be cos it's just the demo, or cos I was hosting a game no-one else was playing, who knows.

And looking at the interface and bits maybe a the 3 of us could try the demo out, then I get to see how readable it is, Byzah see's what it's like and Zed can explain the many bits we don't understand :)

May as well buy the full version or it'll just be annoying at some point (unless I can borrow your gm logon somehow?)

I thought 3.0 was quite floorplan oriented already.

They definitely add something to combat, as there's a heap of rules (and associated feats) you can't really use otherwise.

read what I just edited about trying the demo version out (maybe) Byzah, you posted while I was still editing :)

Demo version can support one DM and 2 connected clients so we could maybe at least give it a spin and see it in action first ?

That sounds like a good idea.

Got any particular day in mind? Tues is a possibility, though I'm having a TV delivered, so may have to vanish at some point for 30mins or so.

I'll download & install the dem tonight.
