Is it like the original with a decent campaign? Or like dark crusade with a stupid map that makes it impossible to take a region if you don't do it the first time?

storyline campaign and everything.
its quite a lot not like dow1 tbh. for example, you have a total of 5 squads (space for a 6th, which i'm guessing will be my dreadnaught), and can take 4 of them on a mission.
it has mmo-style loot in it, like you kill a boss enemy (who's health bar appears at the top of the screen, generally at the end of a level) and he drops a weapon that'll increase the damage of the squad that you give it to, for example.
i'm hoping the campaign gets a bit more freeform at some point, as so far the only choices i've had have been what order to do 2 missions in - but its a decent enough storyline, so dont much mind.
can also play the campaign co-op, but not tried that yet.

The campaigns not like the original at all. You don't have to build a base at the start of every mission. There's no resources. But you still have to play tactically like using cover, flank the enemy etc a bit like Company of Heroes but without the base building.

The 6 squads you use gain levels, this allows you to put points in 4 stats that increase there effectiveness and unlocks new abilities. Weapons drop on the battlefield mainly from killing a boss that you can equip later.

Its way better than Dark Crusade and theres an actually story rather than have to basically play skirmish games.

The multiplayer is almost a completely different game. Requisition points, Power and Victory points are back. So is Population cap. You get 1 base building where all your units are created, theres 3 tiers that you have to unlock before you can make the tougher units. You have global abilities, every time you capture, kill or be killed earns points that you can spend of this.

Each race has a choice of 3 different command units with different abilities, and the global abilities are different depending on which you choose. Each of these commanders have 3 types of gear you can buy for them, Weapon, Armour, Accessory, and each one has at the minimum 3 choices. All units gain levels making them tougher which means you'd be better retreating a unit instead of loosing them, and with the high cost of the Space Marine race you need all the Rescources you can get.

If I remember right 1 single Space Marine uses 5 popcap, 3 for Eldar, 2 for Orks, and 1 for the Basic Tyranid infantry

i had a go at the campaign coop yesterday with my brother, didnt really seem to be that good. just meant that we controlled 2 squads each, instead of 1 person controlling all 4. was a bit easier i guess as we could devote more time to each unit, but well - it means your only playing half the game really.

Meh, I'd give this a go but I'd prefer to get it from steam than have to piss about with disks - it's still 34.99 on steam but it's 22.99 on play. I guess I'll wait for a price drop on steam.

honestly i'd say get it from play, install it, then bin the disk - as you'll be able to redownload it from steam if you ever need to.

./sigh. and now i can't play it tonight, because steam has decided i need the update to stop it crashing (even though its never once crashed for me, in 20 or so hours of play), and thus i need to spend hours dling it at 20kb/s. letting people play single player games when they want to is clearly a terrible idea.

Got it and quite liking it though im holding off doing any more till fanny and grav get it and do it via co-op

Getting it tomorrow. My PC is still in a box until Saturday when I'm off to IKEA to buy desks and so forth. It's going to be my treat for putting together 3 grand worth of flat pack furniture.

On the harder difficulty lvls it gets a bit hectic with lots of enemy's, and controlling the 4 squads. Each squad has 4-5 abilities each, that's 20 keys and im only on day 10, so I dunno how many more they will get. I sometimes forget to use abilities because there's so many. I can see why co-op is useful.

Well I have it, and completed it, if you want to do it co-op Dart, or anyone else for that matter! drop me a p.m. as the multiplayer learning curve is quite high to say the least!
