Chick
Cartwheel RIGHT
I've not read any fantasy this enjoyable since, well, Chine MeVille's work. It's a wonderfully violent, surreal trip through gods, demons, angels, corruption, destruction insanity and (probably) hot ninja chicks.
the basic premise is thus:
Three thousand years ago, there was a rebellion in heaven and the keeper of heavens gates cast the angels down to The mortal world sealing the gates of heaven, so dead mortals can only go to hell. These mortals, for some reason or other, probably religion, build a city on massive chains strung over a great abyss over hell, where the God/Leader of these cast out angels is collecting the sancitified souls of the living / dying before they hit hell, to temper them into an army with which to storm the gates of heaven.
Enter Dill, the last of the Temple Battle Archons, Heir to (soemthing) and the weak offspring of This god/angel's General. Molycoddled as the last of that line by the all-powerful church, he's not even allowed to fly, and can barely hold hid father's sword.
Then, it all kicks off...
It's wonderfull, i'm twitching for the sequel already.
