Liverpools performances for the past two weeks have been dreadful. Behind the scenes at the club things are even worse, which is far more worrying to me than a series of crap matches.
The chief exec (Rick Parry) is an incompetent ass. He messed up a series of big transfers over the summer of players we absolutely need in key positions. Benitez is totally unhappy with him and believes he should be sacked for the good of the club.
David Moores (owns the club) has said privately that he believes Benitez may well leave. He (moores) is a bit spineless and it would be a big thing for him to sack Parry.
The squad we have is not good enough, plain and simple. I'm happy with the expensive signings Benitez has made from Spain (Alonso, Sissoko, Reina, Garcia) but the cheap buys he made (Josemi) isnt good enough to deputise for Finnan and playing Crouch means a new approach from the team. I think Crouch could be a good buy but that will take time as Rafa is this season trying to change the whole way the team plays to be more like Valencia.
What concerns me is I'm not sure how much the poor performances are down to i) some of the players not being good enough, ii) the new systems Rafa is teaching the team or iii) unrest behind the scenes affecting team morale and performance.
I'm very confident about Benitez ability to deliver a title challenging side; I'm not concerned about a series of crap performances as he sorts the wheat from the chaff and teaches the side whole new systems. What I'm really concerned about is the possibility of Benitez leaving.
