Does this quote....

......mean that Lucas is going to do Ep 7, 8 and 9 or a genuine slip of the tongue?

"the challenge for me is telling a six-part story: so in Episode I there are things that I have to get in that refer to Episode VII... no, hang on, we're not there yet. I mean Episode IV..."

well - the whole star wars saga is in 9 parts - so he may well do the other 3 movies after ep 6. Although he may be v.old and v.beardy by the time that happens.

Hasn't he already said that he's not doing the last 3?
But that doesn't necessarily mean they won't happen. With luck a decent director will make them with George as exec producer. That way we get GL's vision from someone who can actually make films.

Aye he did say he wasn't doing them but then I guess he would if he wanted to keep it under wraps. ;)

I would say it probably won't happen, Episode seven would have to feature Luke, Han etc and I can't see Harrison Ford doing any more although maybe the others would. They could set it a long time after Jedi and have new peeps but then I guess you lose the connection.

I am certain that once upon a time (in a Galaxy far far away :p ), Lucas had planned to make 9 films...three trilogies of three.
But in more recent times he has seemed to make it clear that there will only ever be 6 films, and justifies it by saying that the WHOLE saga is basically the story of Anakin Skywalker. And since Anakin/Vader dies at the end of Return of the Jedi, that pretty much ties it all up.
I am sure that one day more films will be made, for example...when Lucas dies and the rights to Star Wars perhaps pass out into the public domain, but even then I would guess it would be a whole new story, set either long after or long before the events in these films.

thing is though, the books follow straight on from Jedi, and i cant see him going totally against what the books say. (though he does attempt to in ep. 2 in places...)

Hmmm the thing about the EU (Exploited Universe) Star Wars books is that they are not regarded as canon by either Lucas or the fans.
For example, this whole idea of Midichlorians...minute organisms which determine a persons Force affinity.....was only introduced in Episode 1, and contradicts a lot of the Star Wars noverls written before The Phantom Menace.
Lucas doesn't give a toss about keeping continuuity with these writers, and in his defence why should he ?
Star Wars is Lucas's baby, always has been :)

however anything written or drawn about about the star wars universe has to be given the all clear by either Lucas or one of his cronies so any that ends up in print won't have clashed with anything he has planned about he ongoing Star Wars story.

However, i really doubt that the final 3 films will ever be made, at least as ppl would like them (the new republic stories) as the characters involved would need new actors to play them due to the original cast are now approaching the zimmer frame years. But i would like to see Star Wars make the move from film to TV as i see stories like Rogue Squadron being ideal TV material.
