Is anyone else playing this or plan to be playing ?
I backed it just after kickstarter, and recently upgraded to the lifetime pack and standard beta.

I've yet to properly play it online however have played the single player missions.
I shall hopefully be making my first foray into the multiplayer bit later.

Backed it on kickstarter, will play it when it's a game, kind of lost interest in the whole alpha testing thing which is still going on, that said I just got TUG and that sounds quite fun

Looking forward to the release but i read the access to the beta costs a fortune.

Not paying a ton of cash to play a beta.

Been reading about this today. They have just upgraded the beta to include more star systems, fuel consumption etc..

now costs �50 for access as opposed to the previous �100

Final game should be �35 so you are effectively paying �15 for beat access.

I am sorely tempted. it looks lush.

Aye, I originally backed the game when you could get a copy for 30 quid.
I then bought the standard beta for 15 quid a few days ago (Discounted to that price because I had already "bought" the game)
And it is very, very beautiful.
I've not really played it the last few days apart from some dribs here and there, but what I've played is very nice.

I notice lots of people complaining about docking, I've not had a problem (so far) but i do have a Hotas X, which helps ALOT

I am playing - finally managed to spend a few hours getting my teeth into it last night. Didn't get to do much more than get used to the Universe map, UI and X360 controls but can happily say - It's amazing.

Took me a few tries to get the hang of docking, and still bounce 'occasionally' but even after a good 3 fingers of rum I could glide the ship down to it's bay pretty much 'just like that'.

Not had time / chance to do much in the way of combat - so can't tell how the X360 controller holds up in that sense but i hear it's 'manageable vs NPC's'.

I am so happy to be a Beta-Backer.

It' still a bit feature light for me - had some trade runs, hit a few bugs, goign to keep stopping in every now and again tbh.

Done a bit each of trading, piracy, smuggling and bounty hunting.

I agree it's a bit feature light at the moment, there's a solid framework there already though which already feels like the Elite I know and love and it looks like they'll be able to deliver on their promises.

So now that this is out, what's the verdict?

Eve seemed over-complicated and grindy to me so how does this compare?

What is the comms like between players? Can you chat to passing ships if you hail them?

comms piece: depends if your flying solo game, private group or open world. In open world you target a player and type out the message.

Game is good. graphics lovely, but its not a game that will get you somewhere fast. its a slow methodical trade, fight, explore approach

Definitely a slow game but I quite like it that way. I'm Cmdr RandWulf though haven't tried open play yet, heard it's a bit crowded around the starter areas at the moment.

I actually flew back to Eranin, it took a while in a Sidewinder as needed a fuel scoop to pit stop quite a few suns on the way.
Trading between Aulin and I Bootis at the moment as per Alpha/Beta.

Yes feature light but more no doubt will be coming, Multicrew, walking around ships, landing on planets are just a few they want to implement.

Decided to give this a go, the slower pace might be a nice change

However, I'm struggling with the controls!

With m/keyboard I seem to go into a spin a bit too easy and I struggle to get the right way up Maybe I need to reduce the sensitivity?

What settings are people using?

Also I tried my wired xbox controller, but couldn't figure out how to accelerate other than in bursts.

On as Cmdr Swither....once I venture out to the game proper.

Been doing the training combat missions and it is fun!

I am struggling against the sidewinder as I can never turn as easy with my mouse, so might try the xbox controller again or even pick up a cheap joystick to try this.

My mouse ends up off the mat with me trying to go up lol.

Picked up a HOTAS for Elite, there's all sorts of price points. Popular entry level choice seems to be the "thrustmaster t-flight hotas x" was about �30 on Amazon iirc think the ones at that price have been snapped up though as a result of elite!

Yes ditch the mouse and buy a cheap logitech extreme 3d or similar while its in the sales, it makes flying the ships so much easier.

As Santa was good to me, I picked up a black widow flight stick today....now to set it up and see if I can fly better


oh what a difference

Dog fighting is much more playable....landing......well!!
