Going out in Style

In this more modern, and connected age, i've come across an oddity.
The joy of a first listening of the new Dropkick Murphys Album. The wait was attenuated as it took over 5 hours to download, but that old game of "Listening to new work you have an emotional attachment to." Maybe that downloading wait made it closer to the old experience of getting a train into Manchester, reading the insert of your cassette / cd on the way home.

Oh the joy - this takes me back. (Oh man i'm old....)

On the plus side, I'm 3/4 of the way through and while it is a "Concept albumn", always something to throw worry about - and it's pretty good. Better than their last offering for sure.

On the downside, I can't get to Boston for st Patrick's day.

Arse.

It's "boston" punk - eg bagpipes, immigrants pretending to be trade union irish, with lots of shouting, drinking and other shenanigans.

so yeah :)

I flew over to Boston 2 years back to catch their St Patrics day weekender. Gigs friday night, saturday day, saturday night, sunday night, monday and tuesday.

Lol when I wrote that i was refering to British "folk" music but I really do like American "Folk" - Dylan, the Byrds,, Tom Paxton, Seeger and Rambling jack Elliott. Phosphorecent sound very mid period Byrds, "Sweetheart of the Rodeo", Gram Parsons influence, which is no bad thing at all :)

WE do both types of music here - Country and Western......

Cull: The latest album is definitely the folkiest, there others are more east coast celt-punk. (of course!)

I've definitely been on a folky vibe recently. Mostly American though - Americana and Indy folk, mostly modern stuff with a select few of Dylans albums and Simon & Garth thrown in for good measure :)

If you're even remotely into folk music you need to have purchased Mumford & Sons' Sigh No More. Great album.
