...that if you receive help when killing a tagged mob you do not gain full xp. On occasions when helped by a much higher level player you gain no xp at all.

Not really an issue as peeps will still jump in and help folks who are about to snuff it, and besides you gain much more xp from the quests than grinding mobs.

However, this is different from WOW, were whoever tagged the mob would still receive the full xp.

Although, one could argue that this isnt a good move by Turbine as it could lead to certain type of players, using this knowledge to grief a player by constantly killing his/her tagged mobs.

It does make you hesitate though before jumping in to help, especially as you know your going to reduce their xp.

Actually you got reduced xp from mobs in WoW if another player did more damage than you and EQ2 didn't give you any xp if the mob you were fighting was grey to someone in your group, so all in all its not such an alien concept.

I never jump in to help, unless the player looks like they will drop, because of this.
It is also annoying to have other players run by and whack your mob, as you don't get all the xp from the mob.

But xp in this really comes from quests, so it isn't a huge deal really.

Agree that xp can be gotten easier from completing Quest's but what about the number of kills for titles. Say for the Goblins kill x number of Goblins do you still get credited for the kill if in a fellowship & do all members get credited or do you have to kill them solo to get the credit. Can't test it at the moment as my copy which was supposedly posted by Play.com last Friday still hasn't arrived & the 7day trial from my sons copy ran out last Sunday night :(

Well, if you tag the mob then you will get kill credit and any loot that drops whether in a group or solo. Its the reduction in xp due to the involvement of other players that occurs, even when the mob is claimed and tagged.

With regards wow, I wasnt sure that it operates on the same level, so I went over and tested this and you do gain full xp if you tag and someone joins in to help.

In EQ if memory serves, whoever did more than 50% damage claimed the kill and received xp and the loot. I am not sure if the xp you gain from the kill was reduced though due to interference from another player. It was certainly viewed upon with as bad form if your targeted mob you had engaged was trying to be kill stealed by another player.

Healing someone while they are fighting has the same effect - reduced XP, which doesn't happen in other games.

hehe thats true matey..still.. its interesting..an attempt to stop power levelling?

I can understand the logic, as why should you gain full xp from a mob, when you have received help.
