Steve Gibson of grc.com and ZoneAlarm Rocks fame has agreed that this proves ZA and other outblind blocking firewalls are perhaps not as safe as you would think they were.

As a note as of version 4 BiD WILL stop this using its rogue application control feature set ...

Hmm. Isn't this just a case of you get what you pay for? The more feature rich commercial firewalls properly proxy outgoing traffic, making it harder to do this kind of piggybacking. Isn't it a little unrealistic to expect a �50 personal firewall to be as feature rich as a �5,000 one?
