The Abhorsen trilogy is pretty good all told. It's a shame that Garth Nix's other stuff isn't much cop.

Agree on Excession being a great book. Idoru was really well written but I would hesitate to put it in a list of great books. Ever he since he finished the Neuromancer trilogy, Gibson has got intoa habit of writing books that describe how nothing at all happens in glorious hi-def detail for chapters at a time. Pattern Recognition was particularly bad for that.
