to make diablo 3 all thats really needed is:
an update to graphics. (not entirely needed - graphics arnt too shoddy anyway)
new char classes (i'm sure i've played a few mods with more char classes, so cant be too complex.) with new skills
new areas
new storyline
so all of thats probly easy enough in theory... but the real problem i guess is with imagination. someone needs to think of the new characters and a new storyline and areas for them to go into...

not really needs new stuff, just developed more...
diablo 2 didn't have new things really, they were just the same but better developed and thought out, and thats the thing... and to be honest the original guys were great at what they did with diablo, and i don't think a new team will be able to recreate what was done with the first 2

After NWN, Dungeon Seige, Devine Divinity (anyone ever play that? /me loved it) and the like they will have to do something as revolutionary as the first one was to avoid the game being a hardcore D2 fest. Sacred was ok but really looked tired and old.
Taking the KotOR would be awe inspiring, but could D2 (and it's fans) handle a transistion to 3rd person?

They just need to remove all this realm down crap and Ip bannings. Non botting players outweight the botting ones. Bots always going to be around as will map hacks. Even ongames like EQ, they have map hack. Yes its more advanced then D2's one i expect but still there. I like D2 how it is atm. If new content got added, great. I just want all these crap anti-bot and anti-spam things blizzard have added removed. Just make the dam ignore list save when you exit. Problem solved!

I understand where you're coming from. I guess it depends on where Blizard as a company want to take the game.
Are their main options:
A - Take their existaing considerable customer base, and build on what they want / need / demand / use ie keep teh game essesntially the same just upgrade it. This will keep the high retention of their existign fans but end up with a game that will probably only score 7/10 in reviews hence be overlooked by some new players.
B - Build soemthi new from the Diablo Concept (hence my KotOR remark) which will be more appealing to newer players but less so to the older ones. After all, look what iD have done with doom after a few years of "doing other stuff". Should Doom3 have been al Linedefs* and 2d Bitmap enemies ?It would be feasable to even provide a free D2 expansion of the content stuff from 3 ... Ok, that is a dumb idea but shows what could be done with a bit of imagination.

oh, there is also C - **** it up totally alienating old and new fans alike.
Personally i'd say they need to at least pull it up to the level of Dungeon Seige, though maybe keep it Isometric.But a diablo styled Kotor thing would be So So So good.

What Diablo needs is more hookers. And gambling. Infact, forget the Diablo and gambling.
