Want a tablet and am drawn to the Kindle fire hd32 gig. But For realatively a few quid more, I could get a basic Ipad mini. I am wondering

1 Is it possible to load your own films on to the kindle fire- Ie ones that you have COUGHstumbled over on bit torrent?

2 Does the kindle play mp3s?

3 I have avoided updating Itunes on my comp as when my daughter did,on her laptop, she can no longer add content to the ipod bu draging and dropping - it all has to go through the library. I much prefer to be able to drag mp3s on and off the thing at will. I am presuming if I went for the Ipad i'd have to update ITunes on the computer?

4 Anything I haven't thought of?

/Edit oh soz - same questions for the nexus 7 ?

thanks in advance :)

ive the nexus 7 32gig which i love, i can drag and drop any media file (music film or tv) and it plays it ok, it also got google play which is a cloud based music, were you can upload all your own music. i also like be able to just log into my home network and download files off my server.

i find the 7" just a nice size to hold, the screen gives a good pic, the only thing that lets it down (for me) is the volume i would like it a bit louder, but if you using headphones it ok

for me the nexus was the best choice, i didnt like the amazon front end on the kindle hd (tho i still like my old style kindle just for reading) and while the 10" ipad is most likely the best 10" pad out at the moment, the mini was very lackluster

IMO The mini is by far the best tablet for business currently. For personal use: id probably say no. Go with a bigger screen.

Doing some research online and speaking to salesmen in town, I have just about ruled out the Kindle. IPad seems out too for the reason mentioned above, so its looking like a Nexus 7 might be the best bet.

Out of interest why you ruled out the Kindle Cull ? From what I'd heard there better build quality but cost less, the only difference is the UI which some like and some don't. But I assumed it being Android you could change that anyway

You cant put your own film/tv or mp3 files on them. They seem to be virtually a hand held front end for Amazon store. I tend to miss stuff on tv, E.g. Boardwalk Empire, and then 2 or 3 seasons in I d/l 1 or more series and watch on the comp. I want a machine that will allow me to shift the files from my pc to my hand held so I can watch it in bed or in the living room and actally sit beside SWMBO for a change!

Kindle Fire exists to sell stuff for Amazon and everything I hear about it sounds lackluster.

iPad will let you play stuff off PC or copy stuff from PC but it all has to be done through iTunes. This can involve a fair bit of faff, especially if you have to convert the files to a different format. It's good once you've got it working though.

If you want an easy and economical life then go for the Nexus. As Btone says, you can just drag and drop files and then play them.

Daughter has updated Itunes recently Aggy, and she cant just drag and drop on and off any more, she has to sync it now?

There is a thingy you turn off thatlets you manually manage the stuff in iTunes.

re: tabs. iTunes for tablets needs loads of dicking about to watch media and you can't do that much with the tablet compared to a 'droid, though they are better built etc.

Kindle Fire's are pretty poor unless you plan to stream loads of movies from Amazon onto one, or root it.

I'm running out of reasons Not to buy a nexus7 If nothing else, get a nexus or similar, then upgrade to a mini if you "really use it like totally loads yeah"

10, unless your hands are tiny and that extra screen real estate causes you storage issues (generally that's why most the girls I know like the smaller devices, as it fits in there bags)

Specially if you want to be watching movies on it, bigger is better !

i like the 7" cause it fits well in the cargo pocket of cargo pants or the inside pocket of my jacket, which means i can take it every were i want to go and have my hands free, and i find the screen big enough to watch stuff on the move. if i need a biger screen i will bring the laptop. i also got this as it makes it easier to hold and protects it a bit

if u wanted to go 10" (and it pains me to say this as i dislike corporate apple) but the ipad has the best display and is a fast little bugger

android wise the nexus 10 has been sold out for about 4 weeks now, it good value for money but hard to get also hearing rumors that it to be upgraded soon, if you need one now look as the samsung or asus ones

I have found something to stop me - the Galaxy Tab 3 is due soon o_O

If 7 is ok for btone then it's fine for anyone - he's got the largest hands in the UNIVERSE!!!!

was in bed last playing with it when it occurred to me 2 bad points
1) there a bug that when your battery gets to 15% it can go into a shut down /restart loop
it can be fixed by plugging it into the official charger, there can be a very small % of the time you have to do a hard reset

2) i cant get google wallet to work with my cards, which means i cant buy anything off the google play store, but this is as much to do with my bank as it to do with google (the bank does a addiction check when you buy something which i dont think google can handle) in truth i havent tried to fix it as i know if i did i would end up spending a shit load of money on silly apps :)

yea i wish my phone was this size, it would make texting a lot easier instead of trying to hit those small keys :)

I got a Nexus 7, love it, but its really annoying that when I drag misic albums on they dont get their album art. It puts a generic picture on them. I did try an app named something like album art grabber, which did find the covers but failed to apply them.

Oh and whats the conesnsus for the best AV proggy? Currently have AVG but I'm not a big fan of it. Someone advised Lookout Security and anti virus?

AVG always fairs well in test, I use ESET myself mainly as it doesn't annoy me or seem to slow things down, and it rates well enough
