Mechwarrior Online

Red Bull gives me wings!
I might just make a few people here get a little excited.

I remember I had to purchase Windows 95 just so I could play Earthseige back in 1995. I remember Battletech 3025 hosted by EA back in 1999-2000 before EA cancelled the beta *Shakes fist at EA/Microsoft*. I remember playing Mechcommander 1 and 2 and all the other Mechwarrior series. I remeber playing Mechwarrior Merc which has been tweaked by MekTek to play online as a small mmo, and also the Crysis engine variant Mechwarrior Living Legends.

So it is natural to be overly excited by the fore coming Mechwarrior Online scheduled for 2012 release.

technically isn't this another FPS reboot? :p

Love the Mechwarrior games, infact, I remember I used to go round to a friends back in the day (I was like 13) and he'd have a laptop and PC linked together via a printer cable (lol) we'd play Mechwarrior 2 and Doom 2 all day and never get bored.

Although I want to call this MW2, I have a feeling I'll just get moaned at for playing Call of Duty -.-

I played quite abit of Mektek MW4 Mercs online as per original post, great community and the battles are good fun. Very similar to World of Tanks where you start with a team on each side and your mission is to destroy the opponent within a given time limit. You can respawn once killed.
Its not bad though slightly old dating graphics but its great piloting a Blood Asp and others.
Mechwarrior: Living Legends using the Crysis engine is also not bad if you got the machine to run it.

I would be guessing Mechwarrior Online while shifting through the information will be very much like Battletech 3025/MekTek/World of Tanks but with updated graphics and alot more features.

I did find a computer conversion of the board game (if you can call it that).

Obveously you'll need a real life person to play with, I've not played for ages and never played the board game, just the computer game but if someone fancied a go I'd be up for giving it a go. I remember seeing another one ages ago too but can't seem to find it, maybe Vassle does a conversion too.

Is it sad that i could identify the mechs before id even scrolled down enough to see their names at the bottom. Battletech is and has always been my favourite miniatures game. Mechwarrior 2 was my favorite FPS.

yeah, it brings back memories of cancelling automatic shutdowns and flushing coolant while frantically trying to shoot another mechs legs off. Think I was like 11 at the time lol!

In MW2 was Lethal in a Black Hawk / Nova in a medium laser configuration.

In the BT miniatures game the Phoenix Hawk was my weapon of choice.

Hmm, wonder if i can drag Gottaa kicking and screaming into a game.

I guess my biggest regret about Battletech was that they ripped off the designs for all of the 1st generation of mechs, the now so called "Unseen" mechs so i grew fond of them before i realized where they had come from and why they had to be pulled.

Its also a shame that they have never managed to fully re-license those images so those mechs can return to the light of day.

Considering I bought the original Steel Battallion controller it won't be a hard sell at all, is there a cheaper 40k type game we could play ? or is it back to graphing paper like when I used to play Mech Wars and Carwars ?

Oh Carwars, how I miss you

Got that box set on it's re-release the other month and it's lovely. Also bought the new RPG and that's very nice as well.
