Last thing I did with a quest was building a finish line at a mountain but I didn't fancy a race or indeed building my house and I'm wondering if I need to do those quests just to carry on.

You need to join a faction and choose a class before you can get a pet. Pets give you access to extra areas by jumping on switches for you at various points across the world, other than that they're a pokemon collection item so don't serve much of a purpose, you only get bricks from the little yellow diggy things they dig up.

You don't need to do the races but you do get a reward item if you do it fast enough, buy those speed lollypop's if you do want to do them. The race back to home is worth doing if you're headed that way anyway, the lollies are cheap so what the heck.

Well Lego universe doesn't allow grouping at the moment, I got an answer from my help request. So it's a bit of a waste of time really. It's a single player game with other people around who's sole purpose is to kill steal off you. Also patch time seems to be 10pm on mondays which sort of cuts my play time down, why not 11 or 12pm or during the day.....

Doubt I'll be playing this after the free month is out.

Time to checkout minecraft soon I guess.

My minecraft server is still online, but until you can die in it, I find it hard to get too invested in it, but Notch has said that is what will move it from alpha to beta. With the new enemies and enemy spawn amounts multiplayer when it is all working is gonna be pretty special, groups of people descending to the depths to adventure and try not to die horribly, wonder if Notch is gonna introduce bandages for healing others

Not allowing grouping though ? what happened to the adventure with friends bit ? :/

probably more adventure near friends ;)

Anyway minecraft, its mostly a game for building fun stuff at the moment, as a pose to being an actual game. Although Notch is working on it, its alpha, I like the idea that the game will evolve and also the fact that players will more than likely help shape how the game turns out, which can only be good as long as notch does put a vote up and allows 4chan to have an opinion. :S

I think they mean you can build together and quite frankly the custom build area is awful. the bricks arn't even sorted so you need to trawl the whole lot every time.

Had a little look at the building a house on lego, Hmm that really is rather horrible, so much easier in minecraft even though it's more blocky in minecraft.

And since the minecraft update I've been afraid of going into my mine which reaches bedrock, will have to strip down and go for a little explore in my mine, though once I crack the cobblestone factory I'll be getting all my stone from there for my castle

just mine cobble stone normally, i wouldn't say you need a factory if it. You'll be full of the stuff if you go looking for diamond or iron/gold in large quantities.

Obsidian factory... now thats a fun one :)

I have one double chest full of cobblestone at the bottom of my mine shaft, but I'm afraid to go down there :)

Need to pull my finger out though and get a good amount of iron sorted out, would really like a rail system setup. I was originally going to dig down under my new castle a huge shaft, well 40x40 and have a glass floor above it, but with the lighting change I'd end up with a castle which is supposed to be a final fallback position if the ghasts invade or the red moon stuff goes live which would be prone to attacks from underneath unless I dig it all the way down, then fill it with lava at the bottom, which could look nice, though then sods law I'll end up getting a creeper to blow out the glass over my spawn point, so every time I spawn I fall to my death into the lava.... Hmm need to plan this castle alittle more I think.

hehe yeah i don't have any problems with that online yet :) I can't wait for things to get harder, i'd really enjoy some of the single player challenges in MP, i'd get some screenshots of my other server up when i get chance :)

$*&$)%!

Went down into the bottom of my mine, all was well, then decided to explore the lava cave I'd found, I wandered in, once again marvelling at my floor sensor which automatically let me in, but had to be manually opened to get out, keeping all monsters locked in. I readied my sword and considered running back to my mine storage area but figured it was a run I didn't need to do as this place was pretty well lit from before, so I run in get to the edge of the lava and remember I needed to get some lava anyway to build my stone generator anyway so open up my inventory to look for a bucket.

While rummaging around the backpack, my mind wanders, and I started considering about how best to build a route down to the lava itself as there currently wasn't an open ledge at the bottom, but I didn't just want to dig straight down and end up finding extra lava. All of a sudden my mind is snapped back into reality as I hear what sounds like ... no it couldn't be, I close my backpack and spin around to see my worst fears realised, a Creeper with it's fuse already lit. My mind races as I try to consider what to do and I end up just jumping wildly towards it swinging my sword

BOOM

My ears are ringing and my senses are spinning but I appear to be flying, but I am alive !

THUD

Quickly my back slams into something smooth, and I start sliding down towards the ledge above the lava, but my mind races as a rough jagged ledge slides past my view infront of me, I look down and my view is just of lava, I touch the lava and immediately catch light, I flail around with my pickaxe to try and clear a safe place to stand, my vision starts to darken, I need to dig somewhere safe, come on pickaxe do your be.....

GAME OVER &di

I respawn, at least now seeing exactly where my spawn point is and rush back into my base, sprint down the mine to the lava cave, run in and see the carnage, a hole blown in the safety floor, and hoping beyond hope I look around for anything I may have dropped, and I realise it will all have been burnt up by the lava.

I trudge out the cave and back up to the surface to gather my thoughts and ponder the spider cull I'll need to do to rebuild a bow and the fishing rod. I am far from defeated but I do realise that my cave systems need some work to make it safe.

Moral of the Story:
When exploring a cave system and you end up digging out an area for iron, and then some coal fill the area back in, or at least put some lighting down there.

Question: I am right in saying enough light will mean they won't spawn, or is there a bug where they still spawn right now ?

i've not tested the new version, but light should stop them from spawning... but the further down you go, the more chance you have of them spawning, even with light. i.e. always have an escape route.

Well from the patch notes the spawning issue was a little borked, had a play at the weekend and nothing blew me into the lava so I was happy, going to get the castle built, then do some exploring as found a large area of water (large enough I couldn't see any land, just water. Was considering going to the Nether until I watched SeaNanners there, he made it look very dangerous

Yeah I was thinking of going, but need to find lots of magma to make obsidian, I've not found much (about 8 squares so far) and have a couple of failed atempts at a drowning pool that I think now works.

Still I've just found a spider spawner.

By the way there seems to be some sort of ghostly echo once an evening and I've been digging towards where the sound seems to come from (Found spider spawner on the way) do you guys know if it has any significance ? Do you guys hear this chilling sound every now and again ? It has direction.

A.

It is the sound I believe of a dungeon, and as you said it does have a direction, I would have thought it was the spider spawner, but it may be there is another one further on, just keep following the noise though as you are :)

yep, its kinda hard to track down, since you only have stereo sound support (above/below isn't taken into account), so you're just going to have to do alot of digging. It does lead to a dungeon, which does have chests, and mossy cobble. hooray!

As far as I know above/below is taken into account, in that if you are enough above or below the thing you don't hear it (i.e you wouldn't hear the noise running over a dunegon if it was say 20 or so below you). At least that's my guess as I don't hear the noise all the time when running around up top

What is mossy cobble ? Only thing I've ever found was a .... I won't say infact cos it'll spoil the fun for future cowboys :)

Well I found the mossy cobblestone, it was coming from further on than that though. I think I've found it, a truely gargantuant cave. it's so big I can't see the top placing a torch as high as I can jump, has a couple of rivers.

Sadly I met an explosive green thingie that once again seems to have destroyed all my gear... when I died it was all spinning around me but it's not there any more. Is ther some new code that if stuff lays around for a bit it disappears ? as mine seems to have. It was a way from where I start though so took me a while (about 5 mins) to get there. I'm so going to build a train system nearer there so i can get there faster.
