Nintendo advice to Wii owners

Hold the Wii Remote firmly and do not let go. Even while wearing the wrist strap, make sure you don't let go of the Wii Remote during game play and do not use excessive motion. For example, in Wii Sports bowling, the proper way to let go of the ball while bowling is to release the "B" button on the Wii RemoteDO NOT LET GO OF THE Wii REMOTE ITSELF. If you are having so much fun that you start perspiring, take a moment to dry your hands. If you use excessive motion and let go of the Wii Remote, the wrist strap may break and you could lose control of the Wii Remote. This could injure people nearby or cause damage to other objects.

in fairness, why put the strap there if its not going to do anything?
its like having a car with seatbelts, then when someone crashes the seatbelts snap instantly, and the company says "meh, shouldnt have crashed should you. your own fault. we didnt design those seatbelts to actually restrain anything, just to look nice."

As I think Marks was suggesting it's just more common sense which some people really need spelling out for them.

And seatbelts do fail, as do airbags two things designed to save your life, and you don't see such press as a Wii-mote hitting a TV gets. State of the Nation FTL

Watch the video of a wrist-strap failing, ask yourself if you'd do that kind of motion with a 30 quid device, wrist-strap or not.

Could they be stronger, yep, but then personally I think it's much more fun laughing at the stupid people. It's like watching an episode of Jackass being created via the internet :D

P.S That website if funny, I laughed out loud reading the caption under the most recent "breakage"
