(For those not in the know, Revolution is the new Nintendo console):

News here.

Big things to come in small package

Nintendo, the world leader in video game innovation, stated loud and clear that they are not to be overlooked in the next generation home console race with the revelation of several unique features of the company's next console system, code name Revolution, to key media outlets. According to the early information, Revolution will combine powerful technology and gaming-focused features in Nintendo's smallest home game console yet.

In its final form, Revolution will be about the thickness of three standard DVD cases and only slightly longer. The versatile Revolution will play either horizontally or vertically, allowing the user total flexibility in setting up a gaming session wherever they have a television.

Thanks to Nintendo's hardware development partners IBM and ATI, the small system will be packed with power that will enable it to wow players with its graphics. Nintendo's legions of loyal fans will be happy to learn that Revolution will be backward compatible, playing both Nintendo GameCube 8cm disks along with its own 12cm optical disks in the same self-loading media drive.

In the next generation, the addition of the Internet will be important to all consoles and particularly important to Nintendo. Revolution will be wireless Internet ready out of the box.

There's much more to Revolution that will be revealed over the coming months, but the combination of its compact size, wireless Internet, backward compatibility, quick start-up time and quiet, low-power operation add up to the start of a great game system. Get ready for the Nintendo Revolution in 2006!

In other news: Sony take billions more dollars to the bank while laughing.

Unfortunately consoles are not about tech innovation or good product. It's about marketing and clout with developers. Both of which Sony pwn Nintendo at.

its more about games and market trends. I think NGC's big mistake was to deliberately exclude the networked market. They've had the technology for years but they veto'd the development of games that work over the internet as Nintendo bosses deemed internet gaming to be "not the way gaming was going". Guess they never heard of XBox Live then.

It sadly has nothing to do with quality of games - just look at the Dreamcast, great machine, great games (just look at Virtua Tennis), great flop for Sega.
The one thing it seems to depend on nowadays if a console will succeed is the presence of FIFA for the after pub crowd.

Dreamcast though had maracas game, arcade shooters, overall decent games, I'd still play mine if it hadn't been nicked many moons ago.

Is the new x-box backwards compatable then ?

Tiswas, I believe that's already been proven fake:

The opening is cool n all, but there's a few big giveaways (including the badly modelled Mario)

USA Today have got the scoop:

Can't make out the design all that clearly, but it certainly looks shinier than the other two consoles. With it being Nintendo though, by the time it comes out, it'll be cheap looking matt plastic or something (like the DS which looked shiny in early prepro shots)

For very thin toast? :p
Agreed, though at least it's a shiny one with LEDs. How can it go wrong?

Seriously though, it's all about the games. I'm seeing an awful lot of "example" renders and videos of what companies are expecting to have on them, but until we get to see this stuff realtime with all the AI and under the bonnet stuff running as well as the shiny graphics, it's all a bit of a moot point.
There's a lot of frothing going on about the new Killzone vid for PS3:

Looks nice, but so did the first one (when it wasn't stuttering), but the game itself was a pretty average affair from what I hear...

Anyway, MS and Nintendo are off to a good start by not modelling their controllers on a boomerang :D

It still have the same controller ports ?

Cos One day I will sit down and actually complete that mech game, even if I need to invite 4 other people round to do the other bits like ejector seat, targeting, speed .... infact I might just sit at the back and shout orders to them and pretend it's mech commander ;)

It's FF-XI that's coming to X-box 360 though, not a new game by any stretch of the imagination ^^
Though it may well be a high def version...

Nice shots. I'm glad that there's the option of having wired controllers, but I think they'll probably have both as the ports are hidden behind a panel. Saying that, so are the memory card slots by the looks of it...

saying that i think that them ports may be for devices such as the drums that they currently have for the Cube...the device it slef is very nice tho much nicer then the PS3.
