./sigh at the mcdonalds and curry arguement. i dont think anyones ever claimed maccy d's is better than curry purely on the basis that more people eat it. there is afterall a different reason for that - maccy d's is much cheaper than curry. you also can't really eat a curry while driving (perhaps drive through curry houses are the future) or walking (curries that come with harnesses so that you can use both hands to eat them while you walk, maybe?).
perhaps a more reasonable comparison would be to compare 2 things of roughly equal cost and availability. say, 2 indian takeaways next door to each other. i would suggest that in that situation, most people would tend to go for the one that provides the best food. afterall, once you've gone to the trouble of driving there already, your not going to worry about a tiny difference or cost, or a bit more of a queue, if you know that one will give you a much better meal - or at least, the one that you prefer. maybe you dont like the spices one of them uses, or you're allergic to the rice.
