Out of action

Hiyas,

Looks like I'm gonna be out of action for a while as my machine is currently fooked (random lockups/reboots) and only allows me about a max of 20mins in game before it craps out.

I've stripped the machine down and reseated everything, cleaned all the dust away, reinstalled the OS, flashed BIOS to latest version - all to no avail.

Just finished doing a round of RAM stress tests, which passed successfully so it looks like it's not the RAM. Next up are different versions of most of my drivers, and if that doesn't allieviate the problem, I guess it's gonna be a case of testing each card individually.

Hope to see you all soon :)

Are your fans all working ok m8? I used to have a problem where my pc would start having problems after it had been on a while in a gfx intensive program and it turned out to be the cpu fan was fooked and the machine was therefore overheating.

Aye, that's one of the thing I did when I stripped the machine down.

I though it may have been my Audigy2 soundcard, as it box seemed a bit more stable when I removed it, but since then it's crashed quite a few times again. However, upon changing gxf card drivers, I'm now actually getting a proper error on BSOD, and it looks like my ti4800 is on its last legs. Forunately, someone I know in IRC is sending me their old FX 5700u next week so hopefully that'll sort everything out and I'll be able to play again soon :) Fingers crossed.

Think I had the same problem, would get random items appearing with funky colours on them/random crashes. I got a new machine (which currently doesn't work...!). Odd that my gfx card is a 4800ti too.

I also had this problem,

Basically I upgraded my gfx card and all worked fine for a few weeks. Then suddenly my machine started rebooting and also I would get gfx snow storms.

Eventually I discovered It was my power supply unit. I had just worn it out and the new gfx card it seemed was one upgrade too many. So a quick trip to pcworld and 40 later for a sparkly new psu my pooter is happy again! :buds:

To find out if your pc is having the same probs, try disconnecting some non essential hardware ie floppy drive, 2nd cdrom etc and surplus fans.

Hope this helps!!

Figured that i'd post my MIA here also :)

Started having connection problems last week where I would just lock up mid game and have to reset to get the thing going again. Thought that it might be a router issue but both that and the 2 PC's are in tip top state...basically Telewest are coming out to check our cabling now as we're showing errors on the modem their end. This means I probably won't play until it's sorted (techie coming on Tuesday 22nd) as i'm fed up of losing good groups :) catch you all later

hehe I did wonder if my earlier post might be missed as it was in somebody else's thread. I just didn't want to start a new thread for the sake of posting the same thing as the other guy :D

Anyhoo, grats on 26!! I'm about to log in and dust me ole ranger off

Well built myself a new Pc today so been offline. Working on settingn it up and creating a home network (which is proving to be a pain as the new motherboard has 2 network cards built in and its messed the settings up.)

Might not be on much tomorrow either as still working on setting the new PC up (got to install the software etc) and working in the afternoon..
