We could be in for a very long wait for shadowbane now, certainly cant see it comming out over here in march or even close.Unless UBisoft take over you never know might be able to play either Usa/Uk version then.

Duesseldorf, 11 February (Reuters) - the computer game developer Swing! Entertainment set request on Tuesday to insolvency.
The society requested Duesseldorf with the district court because of inability to pay to open the insolvency procedure divided Swing! by obligation publication also. For 19 February the fixed general meeting was shifted therefore on an indefinite date, it was said. The Swing! shares became according to data of the German stock exchange (Xetra: 581005.DE - message - forum ) to 16,45 o'clock of the trade suspended.

In the financial year 2001/02 (to 30 June) Swing had booked a loss before interest and taxes (public exhibition for multimedia) of approximately six million euro. At the end of September had Swing! still announces to return in the new financial year 2002/03 to the profit area.

Swing! suspends beta test
2/12/2003 - 9:15 AM [Filed by J.]
From their page and Hengsen's fingers:

Due to the current company situation, the Shadowbane Beta will be suspended from today 14.30 (GMT+1).
The european Beta will most likely restarted as soon as internal decisions are made about the progress of shadowbane in europe.

We are very sorry, but we have to make this step until things clear up.
When a decision is made all acounts will still be valid and most likely the characters and the world will be used again. The Beta Board will remain open for further discussions and announcements.

We will keep you informed about the progress.

and this

Whozer: "Es ist noch nicht"
2/12/2003 - 7:16 AM [Filed by J.]
Latest in a string of Swing! employees attempting to assure Shadowbane fans that they are indeed still in business and won't be cutting out anytime soon, their other Web guy, Whozer, posted, this time in English:

For the next 3 months we will continue our work as usual. During this time there will be a insolvency administrator (thats usually a lawyer who is specialized into insolvency) who tries to rebuild Swing!s ability to pay.

If the insolvency administrator succeeds, we will have a Shadowbane release

If he fails, Swing! will be bancrupt and the remains of the company will be sold. As Shadowbane could described as "almost done" I think there will be someone who will buy the european license to publish Shadowbane. And if not I *bet* Ubi or Entranz won't look *exactly* if that creditcard is from NEW YORK or from YORK... So what I want to say is, that hopefully everyone who wants to play Shadowbane will have the possibility to play it.[Emphasis added, J.]

We have a saying here in germany "Es ist noch nicht aller Tage Abend" (means something like "It ain't over before its over"), so the next 3 months will be very exciting for us (Swing!) and for you (I assume). Lets if we can make it.

There are a lot more quotes and stuff on warcry

But from those two comments i take it to mean,we cant afford to run the servers for beta right now.All we can afford to do is come into work for 3 months and PRAY that shadowbane will release within next 3 months so we get some revenue comming in or were in the **** :(.If it does come out on time ish it might keep swing going, but given how much money they must have cant see a big launch over here i'e gona cost to press cd etc etc.So we could see a very slow start ,as the few people that alrdy know about shadowbane buy it and contribute enough funds for swing to buy some adverts and take all those magizine editors out to dinner :)

LOL reading that from a business angle i wouldn't be suprised if he gets his hands slapped severely for announcing as much as he has done above behind the Insolvencey companies back who basically will take a massive cut from any revenue generated before the developers got to pay suppliers & buy editors meals for 'adverts' - Like the editor has the power to sanction that arf!

Swing = dead in the water IMHO

aye: Ubi-soft could rescue them wholesale actually - but they aren't even vaguely interested... mainly because Swing!De really are in a mess. (I mean REALLY)

Secondly UBi-soft had the option to take up the Euro SB in the first place (via their French base, as Ubi are French afterall) but they ddn't want the exposure and, warcry wanted the upfront revenue from the euro distribution deal (devCos get an upfront signing fee from the distribution sales to specific regions or countries for these mmogs - hence now the popularity of regional servers/services [and i bet you thought it was coz of language issues?] [actually - it is a bit - generally the localised translations are paid for or done by the localised distributor/partner])

So, Ubi wont want it - if they didnt see the profit in in the first place why do so now AND have to pick up from the Swing debacle? Secondly there may well be an exclusivity clause that actually prevents UBi from running it in Euro - we dont know, but either way it looks a no-hoper.

Who could pick it up?

Firstly - who would want to?

Apparently the Swing infrastructure is really in a bad way, so it isnt just a case of picking up from where it stopped and going forward - theres a lot of fire fighting and fixes to be made for anybody who picks up any of the Swing bagage.

It seems more likely that Cos will let Swing hang - then pick SB up without the bagage. Unless the insolvency lawyer does some canny wheeling an dealing.

Somehow I doubt that many such folks would appreciate what the SB may be worth - and with SB gaining the reputation of "the game that is always delayed" is the "product" that hot a property?

On the plus side - if you're in the UK you can get the NA version of SB and play on the NA servers - lag really isnt a big issue nowadays afterall. Feel sorry for the mainland euro's "maybe) but for UK gamers - its probably good news, though whether they move the ruo beta folks to the NA servers is another question. This close to release though...seems doubtful.

In other news:

SOE canned Sovereign and are spending a measly $5 million on advertising SWG in the states and online - they "reckon" they'll have 100,000 subscribers inside two months. I'd make that about 2 weeks, tops.

PS: Mosop - thanks for the headups on this btw... appreciate it.

As far as I'm aware people outside the US won't be able to play on US servers because of the deal between the different publishers, Uk or not.

Maybe this has changed with the situation with Swing but there has been nothing about a change on the beta boards.

Shadowbane Beta Expands 2/14/2003 5:11:29 PM

Beginning today, ubi.com will be sending out invitations for 10,000 additional Shadowbane beta testers. These new testers are expected to contribute to the final stages of class and discipline testing, as well as siege warfare. This new beta expansion will officially begin larger scale server stability and stress testing for Shadowbane, which is expected to continue until Gold Master. The beta acceptance e-mails will start going out later today and should be completed sometime Sunday evening. Further beta population expansions are also planned for next week.

We know peeps in uk Git etc have got the beta, any of you peeps that got the beta wot did they check for not location i think :).And did you have to stick any credit card details in for security etc

Question
I live outside North America. Can I sign up to be a Shadowbane Beta Tester?

Answer
Beta Testers who are from the U.S. or Canada may apply to be Beta testers for the SHADOWBANE online service provided by Ubi.com. Ubi.com provides the online service for U.S. and Canada only. Other companies provide the SHADOWBANE online service Asia and for Europe. Links to International information may be found at: http://www.shadowbane.com/

Ok as Treebeard said didnt think you could play usa server if outside usa or canada, posted in other links to that effect. But i think its becoming a little Fuzzy if you cant or not now

Question
I am not a resident of the U.S. or Canada, what can I do to play SHADOWBANE?

Answer
Users who are from the U.S. or Canada may play on the SHADOWBANE service provided by ubi.com. Canadians will pay in U.S. dollars which will be converted to Canadian dollars by their bank.

The SHADOWBANE online services are provided by three companies. Ubi.com provides the online service for U.S. and Canada.

Other companies provide the SHADOWBANE online service Asia and for Europe.
Germany: http://www.shadowbane.de/index.php?lang=ger
UK: http://www.shadowbane.de/index.php?lang=eng
France: http://shadowbane.swing-games.de/french/main.html
Asia: http://shadowbane.en-tranz.com/

Cant find anything that says usa and canada ONLY or aything saying you CANT play on there server, those statements are more like diversion sighs rather than No entry sighs now

Btw on the euro version web site Swing's still says this

If I live in Europe, can I purchase either the US/Canada or Asian versions of Shadowbane so I can play with my friends overseas? Also, can residents of other countries purchase the European version of Shadowbane and play on the European servers?
Not for the foreseeable future. By contract with Wolfpack Studios, residents of European countries will be prevented from playing in regions outside of Europe if they purchased SWING! Entertainments version of Shadowbane. Likewise, residents of North America/Canada and Asia will be prevented from playing Shadowbane on SWING! Entertainments European servers.

1.13 If I purchase the SWING! Entertainment version of Shadowbane and reside in North America or Asia, how will I be prevented from playing in Europe?
By contract with Wolfpack Studios, we cannot allow players from other regions to access our game servers. If you are not a resident of a European country, you will be prevented from creating an account for play on SWING! Entertainments Shadowbane servers.

But since even there Forum is down now not reading to much into it,Buying a Usa version of the game might allow you to play on usa server just still a little Fuzzy if you can
