Resident Evil

Dead Again, I need a Rez
I just went and saw this today, its not bad actually. In a couple of places its a bit over the top ie the dog scene.

It was a bit hard to follow in places I think the films ment to be based before any of the games. The mansions in it but its only ment to be an access to the underground lab were the films set, which is under racoon city.

it was a bit nuttz - rather funny in bits (wasn't meant to be) - but those zombies were so camp!!!

The sequence with the lasers was a complete rip of a film called CUBE though - watch that - awesome film!!!!

Just watch the SlipKnot video of my plague instead, its got the best bits of the film in it as is actually scary :D

Loved this film. Was the first zombie film I've seen that was actually scary in bits. It also had the first shaggable zombie in...

Of course some bits were silly, but it's a zombie film, so you've gotta be prepared to make some leaps of faith. All in all, the best game to film conversion I've seen, and a pretty good film in its own right - you don't need to have played the games to enjoy it. I never did, Alone in the Dark 1 scared me too much :p

Now if only they'd had samurai swords, instead of those crappy pistols... ;)

This is without a shadow of a doubt the worst zombie/horror film I have ever seen. It is also the worst video game to film thingy I have ever seen as well. Bob Hoskins, everything is forgiven for Mario Brothers.

I thought the acting was poor (although the two lead ladies were not bad, but not good), there was none of the suspense or tension that the game had, I never ever felt remotely scared or even a bit flustered. The effects were assmonkeyassmonkeyassmonkeyassmonkeye and the zombies looked like Thriller wannabes. I thought the tomato sauce covered dogs were quite good for a laugh though. It could easily have been Tomb Raider 2 tbh. And what the hell was going on with the Red Queen/little English girl business?

Its a shame because it could have been good. Imagine this film with the style of the Matrix or the suspense and horror of any Romero zombie movies. Instead they went for cheap thrills when they should have called in Romero, gone 18 certificate and given us some zombie body parts flying all over the screen. A better Director and Writer wouldn't have gone amiss either.

The only good thing about it is the fact that most things from the game were in it.

More Hollywood assmonkeyassmonkeyassmonkeyassmonkeye!!!!

Id have to agree with Treebeard actually, it could and should have been bit better, netherless, there was plenty of effort put into the film, plenty of good ideas. No doubt people making it were under pressure to make it appealable to the game fans and people who wanted an action movie.

Watched about 3 times however to make sure i got to see it from every point of view. What it definately did was keep the japanese origin to it, feminine, attractive, elegant and vicious heroines the most noticable.

No-one can say it had a bad storyline to it as the story is nowhere near to over.

Good watch, but fans of the game will be able to relate to it best.

Oh and that camera effect in the very last scene was done brilliantly.

The most frustrating thing about it is that its not as though they never had a lot to work with.

I mean, they made a film out of a game which features some Italian plumber trying to save some bint called Daisy from an alligator on steroids who eats mushrooms to give him special powers and has a brother called Luigi. Now, you expect this to be a bad film.

When you have a story which includes viruses, zombies, mad zombie dogs, shotguns, rocket launchers, beautiful women, big monsters, haunted mansions and did I mention beautiful women? How the hell can you go so far wrong?

If you throw enough money at it then you will find bits of the film that you thought were ok. There were bits that I thought were ok, but it failed dismally as a horror film.

Was the first zombie film I've seen that was actually scary in bits. It also had the first shaggable zombie in...

Rorsch mate, have you seen Dawn of the Dead, Evil Dead or any of the Romero stuff? You probably have and I don't see how you found this scary in comparison matey.

Well generally action and zombie movies go hand in hand. I think it failed at both but thats just imho. Most zombie movies have action in them. *shrugs*

Ultimately it was a zombie flick, it what its all about. A virus that turns the population of a small town into zombies. The whole game is based around your character killing zombies and the film follows that.

I think it failed as a movie as a whole though as I said, not just from a zombie stand point. Its right up there with assmonkeyassmonkeyassmonkeyassmonkeye Raider.

As for analysing it too much. I'm sure that if Hulk, X-Men 2 or a film based on whatever floats your boat came out and it was pants, you'd be here analysing it.

If the same writer and director released a film about something you were really interested in and it stunk would you come here and say why you thought it stunk? Would you be happy with this guy writing and directing a film you may be looking forward too in the future?

Sure its just a film but if the answer to the above is yes and no then assmonkeyassmonkeyassmonkeyassmonkey off you hypocritical assmonkeyassmonkeyassmonkeyassmonkey.

Think I'll wait for the DVD then.

Mind you... that Milla Jovovitch is a lovely laydee. I'd probably even buy the l'oreal adverts if they were on DVD :)

Cerberus

You stupid boy
I liked it. Wasn't really true to the game, other wise the lead char would kill all the zombies in the first 5 mins of th efilm then run around for 2 hours trying to fit small shapes into oddly shaped holes etc etc.

I think its pretty dman hard to make a film out of a game, Streetfighter and Mario bruv's were a complete pile of steaming poo. Mortal combat was a good film tho I liked that.

Only thing I didn't like about this was the amazing amount of times I saw a mic boom.

Twas a good watch, not amazing in any sense but kept me entertained for a while

The big mistake here is that they turned this into a lameass 15 cert film with minimal violence.
This is a ZOMBIE film for chrisakes or is supposed to be...
We want blood, gore and decapitations.
Not a stupid sci-fi plot and people running around in corridors.

What we wanted was Dawn of the Dead for the 21st Century and instead we end up with a kid friendly action movie.

If you wanna make a Zombie film then you have to have the GUTS (no pun intended) to do it properly.
If only they had hired Romero (as originally planned) instead of that stupid Hack Paul Anderson...who has RUIMED every film he has ever been connected with : Event Horizon, Soldier, Mortal Kombat....
Even worse, it seems he has now been hired to direct the planned live version of Aliens V Predator. Based on the comic/game.
There goes another promising franchise down the toilet :)

I enjoyed Resident Evil simply because it was a easy to watch fun film. Ok Resident evil wasnt the greatest zombie flick, and certainly not the best action flick........

However it was a bloody good attempt at it considering Hollywoods total lack of ability to make a movie these days that doesnt have a happy ending or a sad ending that oozes moral issues.

The ending while most certainly was left open for the sequel was great and most definetley in line with classic zombie movies, it was nice to see the good guy's not walk out into the world they saved.

There's another Zombie movie coming out sometime in the next year or so, called Walking with the Dead, unfortunetley it hasnt got a Hollywood budget so it's heading striaght to DVD/VHS.
