excellent, yep. i wouldnt say 'miles better' than quantum - but then, i liked quantum.
was a bit confused at first as i thought it was meant to be a direct sequel to quantum (like quantum was to casino royale), but once i had that sorted it was fine :p

I found the exploding hydrogen powered hotel to be somewhat vexing in QoS.....

I do fancy seeing the new one though.

The action scenes were dreadful on QoS - couldn't see what was happened. the fact it barely had a plot and one of the most underwhelming villians of the franchise just compound it to the very lower tier of Bond movies. Odd because Casino Royale and now Skyfoal are amoung the very best in my opinion.

Skyfall si indeed most excellent.
So good that I feel it would have stood up as a "AAA spy action movie" even without the JB tag.

I was amused today that pre-Skyfall DK had regretted becoming JB and was looking for contractual get-outs. He hates QoS.

Yup, Skyfall very very well sneaks the flavour of old bond back into the film bit by bit and you find yourself completely engrossed with much glee.

I even thought Jaws was going to pop out at one bit.

Hmm, I found the whole "computer hacking" thing to be very poor, which kind of spoiled it for me.

Had a go round about this on Facebook the other day.

Spoilers below.

Q is apparently a genius level computer security guy. However when they capture the bad guy's laptop, he sees no problems in hooking it up to the main MI6 internal network that can apparently control everything in the building and then execute random code on the machine. Luckily the bad guy's plan assumed that he'd be exactly that stupid and that MI6 had no idea what a sandbox was so his plan worked perfectly as a result.

Bond takes M to a remote house in the middle of nowhere to draw the bad guy into a trap. Apart from collecting the Goldfinger DB5 he doesn't think to stock up on anything else - like guns for example. Or to have any kind of backup in case the bad guy randomly shows up with a squad of goons and a helicopter gunship.

Also MI6 know where Bond and M are (because they are feeding the information to the bad guy) but don't do anything about it or send any kind of support so that you get a Home Alone montage for a bit instead.

Severine meets Bond, tells him that she is working for the bad guy. Bond points out that her tattoo means she is a sex slave. That's exactly as much interaction as they have before Bond appears in her boat and shags her. Then he basically gives himself up to the crew and she gets shot because Bond is rubbish. She was the most pointless Bond girl ever.

M gets killed not by the bad guy or as the result of considered sacrifice but pointlessly in a crossfire from a shootout with a random goon. It would have been better if she'd made more of the 'I have to choose to send people to their deaths every day so here is my sacrifice to show that I will face the same thing'. But they botched it.

What happened to the hard drive? At the beginning of the movie it was important enough that M was prepared to have Bond shot for it. Once the bad guy is in custody however no-one cares about it and it's never mentioned again.

It was a really well made movie with great photography and acting over a plot that was utterly awful and that made no sense at all.

Yeah it'd have been far better if M had died in a really, really cliched way - that would definitely improved the movie.......

It's a Bond movie, deaths are supposed to be clichd. If the bad guy had been killed in that way you'd have felt it was a cop out. This movie was all about M and her death and at the end she died in a meaningless way.
