Aye, but this company, Shapeways do the actual printing for you

3d printers still suffer from poor resolution which is a problem for making stuff at that scale. Sure you could use them to create basic shapes which you could then add detail to manually but creating basic shapes out of foamcore or cast resin isn't hard or expensive anyway.
