Sound sync issues

Hi Everyone,

I've recently been trying to get a TV and sound system sorted out, but I'm having major problems with lip sync.

I've bought an LG 47LN578V LED TV, and a Yamaha RX V375 amplifier. It's all set up, and looks very nice ( :) ), but the audio and video are always out.

I've tried to use an ARC by connecting it to the ARC enabled HDMI port in the TV and to the HDMI output in the amp. I have also set the TV to use external speakers, and enabled ARC support on the amp. Unfortunately, it just doesn't seem to work, so I am now using an optical cable instead.

The optical cable does output sound via the speakers which is great, but as noted above, the sound is out of sync. Unfortunately, I really notice the difference, and I've spent hours using the lip sync adjust functionality on the TV, and the sound delay functionality on the amp to try to correct it. Neither seems to do anything, and I haven't made any progress fixing the problem.

If anyone has any advice, that would be great. I can possibly return the amp, but not the TV.

Thanks,

Chris

Your AV receiver should should have a delay option in it menus you can adjust to get things tied up, takes a bit of trial and error to get it right.

If the options on both the TV and AMP aren't making a difference then you may need to adjust your head. Failing that you could try upgrading firmware on everything, there are a couple of threads out there recommending using stereo instead of 5.1 as well. I'm guessing you've got a timing issue in there that is outside the bounds of the adjustments you can make.

Thanks for the advice guys. The AV receiver does have a sound delay option, but it doesn't appear to do anything. Also, the sound delay appears to be different for different programs. I am presuming that this is connected to processing time? (e.g. different iplayer programs may take different lengths of time to show video relative to Netflix or video files on my hard drive?). I'm going to go into Richer Sounds this weekend, but I wondered if either of you thought a new amp would solve the problem, and if so, which one I should get.

Cheers,

Chris

My last AV amp, pre children, was a Harmon Kardon AVR-355 and I never had any problems with HDMI or lip sync problems from any of my sources. The guys at Richer Sounds normally know what they're talking about though so I'd go with them.
