Graphix very good. Animation also very good.

Great fun to watch cylops picking up units and throwing them. :)

The wave effects and god powers looks absolutly brill. There is also differnt effects for nighttime and daylight.

The units move together and form formulations very smoothly, much more fluid than AOE2.

Each panthanoen (sp?) are very different in approach regarding how you gain favour with the gods. Norse seem to be the most tricky in that you only gain favor by attacking other units, whilst the greek mythology all you do is still a few villages on your temple to pray. The egyptians to gain favor just build loads of statues.

Overall a nice selection of troops, heros and god powers to use.

Resource management has been made easier than AOE2. Farms no longer need attention, when one is built you dont have to stockpile the farms or go back and sort it later when exhuasted as its infinite. Same with food grathering from fishing boats. Loads of goats so Piper will be happy playing :D

Animals can be hearded and allowed to fatten up before killing for food, another nice touch.

At last they seem to have sorted the walls/gates out. Now the gates are the easier way through rather than smashing the walls down. Also easier to creat a gate, just select a wall and choose gate option. Simple.

Only complaint here is that all units generally hack through walls with ease.

Gameplay is fun and you have to decide which units to select for your army as the hero or myth units count from 2 to as much as 6 for things like Hydras. They are fun, during combat they grow more heads and become more effective. :)

Also unlike AOE2 where you build and build more houses to gain the population, in this you are limited to 10 houses. To gain more population you have to search and find settlements.

Overall I love the game, but.... always a but isnt there. :)

I play Star Wars Battlegrounds a hell of alot. I feel that AOM doesnt offer the choices of units and different ways attack your foes as the battlegrounds game. The maps are just normal or large, whereas I always play on Giant maps in the other game. Choice of maps is also limited compared to the other.

A sence of 'small' comes to mind whilst playing.

I also feel that with only 3 major gods, sure you have a choice of minor gods as you advance through the four ages, but it seems limited.

The game is crying out for an expansion. Maybe im being cynical here but it seems to me whether they release the game with only 2/3 of the material and save the last 1/3 for an expansion 6 months down the road. One way to make more money. :D

Anyways, the game is fun, graphics lovely, animations a thrill to watch and totally absorbing gameplay.

Will I be playing it in 6 months time....depends on expansion.

I had a "press preview" - which let me play the first 16 scenarios in the game (through to the third egyptian one).

Pretty much agree with Jett.

Its quite "lucious" looking and very smoothly presented.... some nice improvments to erase some micro-managment burdens (farms and animals especially) - plus the "town bell" feature is handy (pulls all your peasants into their nearest "ddafe" building.

Units are well done - some anims are dman fun - totally love the cyclops for example...

thing is - i found it stupidly easy to win - i didnt fail a single mission except one (trojan horse) on the first attempt... storyline was actually rather involving also - rare that.

..and i dont really like these sort of rts games - not strategic enough for my tastes - but it was a lovely looking game and intuitive GUI etc.

Its very "polished" - just not my cup of tea... oh and the version i had only had two maps for online games which were both a bit nafff.

Git

Your opinion is worthless....
had it since release last friday and i love it but then i loved the last 2 AOE's as well :) havent played Mp online since the first one been enough MMG's to keep me busy :/

it is very nice looking alot simpler to control units and as stated above manage stuff is much more simple..

i actually think the norse Roxxor :/ my fave race by far specially for taking out enemy bases they seem imho to have the most units for destroying buildings..

normal run of the mill units and also myth units :)

i found the it's either the greeks or egypts who are most similar to the older versions where as they build everything and farm and gather wood themselves.. where as the norse have dorfs for gold normal peasants for everything else and a base fighting unit which builds everything..

the best aspect is the fact you can take over outposts you cant beat wiping out an enemy base to take it over and build your own on top as a sort of foot hold to your next conquest..

give it 10/10 for being i think the best of the 3 so far gfx wise gameplay wise and just i found different enough to be a good game looking forward to an MP when im not pking chimps :/
