I have decided to do a bios update since some more techy people advised me that it could help with the crashing problems I experience. However, turning my flat upside down, I have not managed to find my mainboard documentation. Does anybody have any idea how I can find out what board I have?

Take the cover off your PC and check for a label on the board - the board make/model is typically printed onto the board itself.
