Temporarily out of action...

Just wanted to let you know that you possibly won't be seeing me in Norrath for a bit... Yesterday I had a bit of a problem with my computer, which crashed (yet again) and would not reboot correctly. When I noticed that a cable was a bit loose in the computer, I pushed it in again, which caused a nice little spark and a bzzzzzzt noise. ;-)

Long story short, at the very least my PSU is fried. Not sure what else is affected. I will try out a friends PSU this weekend, but I am not sure what else has taken damage. So I am going ahead with my plan of buying a new computer, since I was planning on doing that in 2-3 weeks anyway. Since it will be built from scratch, I expect to be offline for anything between 7 days to 2 weeks, unless my friends PSU does the trick.

Okay Dara, with the new mentoring system you can get back into it quickly enough when you get back if we've outleved you.

And on the plus side, with the new computer I should no longer have any crashing problems from overheating or weak powersupplies....

... so of course I will get plenty of new and exciting crashes to keep me amused. ;-)

Okay, we tried to simply replace the PSU on the old computer and it rebooted...

...exactly once, never to boot again...

Seems like something else is fried as well, which means I will definitely not have any Internet access except from work until the new Computer arrives. At best the new comp is supposed to be finished Saturday. I guess I will have to see when I will be back online for good. /sigh

The last time this kind of thing happened to me we'd had an electricity spike that blew the capacitors on the motherboard. Got me a brand new motherboard and PSU out of the electricity board.

Not that it really matters now as your new one will be with you shortly but check them out. If they have lovely little domed tops then they've blown.

Quick update: Seems like the mainboard I ordered was not available and they were waiting for new stock to arrive. I should have had the finished computer by today, but now they are still waiting for the mainboard. Which means I may get the new computer next week Thursday at the earliest.
