Yelena Isinbayeva is aiming to challenge Bubka's record of records :) Saw her get the latest (5m) on Friday at London Grand Prix.

I'll propose (that I not seen already) --

(Athletics) Roger Bannister for 4 min mile.
(Rowing) Steve Redgrave (5 Olympic gold medals at 5 consecutive Olympics)

LOL, just seen that Gottaa proposed Big Daddy.

Well, poll over, then, isn't it? :)

Edit: should include Jesse Owens for annoying Adolf Hitler at the 1936 Olympics :)

Eric Cantona should be in there, few people can be a Footballer AND a pro ninja/philosopher

Happily Deposed GM
Daley Thompson for me was the greatest competative sportsman I've ever seen.

For cricket you'd have to add Viv richards to the list.

Steven Redgrave also springs to mind.

For Athletics add Ed Moses too ... what was it .. nearly 8 years unbeaten? I forget exactly how long

Some good suggestions so far though.

Phil "The Power" Taylor? Darts isn't a sport though. Its a pub game ffs. I hardly thinking a bunch of fat blokes chucking "arrahs" constitutes the peak of sporting greatness :D

Better than Cricket though.

Although I admit watching (actually make that hearing about) a bunch of public school toffs getting destroyed by the Aussies is quite entertaining.

Public school toffs?

Only one public schoolboy in them; Strauss. Most of them are Northerners from really POSH areas like Ashington. Cricket has always been a preserve of all the classes (You ever listened to how Boycott, Truman, etc speak?). Just shut up for once Janie please on a sport you know NOTHING about.

Your "team" which isn't even your nationality won at a sport you don't like and know nothing about. Well done. You must be proud. Supporting Australia at Cricket is like supporting Man United from 93 to 2001. I guess you'll be supporting Brazil or Germany in the World Cup in 2006?

I supported the underdogs appariently the Aussies were in decline and in a crisis after some poor performances and they have too many aging players, while England new breed of exciting (not a word I accoiate with cricket) pups were going to give them a mauling.
Of course England may still win, but i'm sticking with the underdogs they seem to have more class and fight.

Oh and talking of Nationality Englands only decent batman in the last game, what was his Nationality?

The underdogs? Australia? One of greatest teams ever to have played the game and that have held the Ashes for 16 years? Ok :D

Australia are 1-8 on to win the series and have been the favourites for, well, ever. Obviously this is what happens when you read bits of The Sun/The Mirror on a sport you don't know anything about :D

Actually, forget my previous comment. Carry on talking about Cricket. Its funny.
