Well I have always maintained that Diablo was based on Gauntlet - running through areas killing monsters, opening chests and collecting potions and loot, but I suppose I can see your point. Hope its not a sign that the inventiveness of the team that made I and II has given way to lazy knicking stuff from other games.

Nice one Flight,

Them thar skill runes could be a very nice idea. If Blizzard continue to release patches once the game is released, even adding 1 more skill rune could significantly change the game which could give this game the durability of its predecessor.

Still waiting for an archer-type character...

Cheers

Choo talkin' 'bout, Willis?

You want the D3 dev team to remain inventive and not nick things from other games whilst claiming (and I agree with you here) that Diablo was based on Gauntlet?

Gauntlet itself must surely be based on D&D.

There aren't many new ideas around these days and one can hardly claim that any form of dungeon crawling is innovative. Blizzard's strength is taking a proven concept, coming up with a compelling storyline, adding their own touches (I'll grant you that some of these could possibly be considered innovative) and making it better than similar products (subject to personal preference, of course).

If that involves adding their own take on fun ideas from other games then it's fine by me.

By the way, the mirror effect is also the Mage's signature level 80 spell in WotLK :D

I don't really mind where its ideas come from as long as they game play is fun. My opinion is games try too hard not to copy features form other games, when some things you just wish were in every game - eg class system from FFXI (same char can level multiple classes and swap between them in towns). One of the major fails for EQ2 (apart from the obvious fact SoE made it) was that they purposely tried to do everything different from EQ1.

All reports from Blizzcon, this last weekend, are that Diablo 3 is awesome. \0/

Oh, no more pots and elements of Battle.net will be pay to use. Totally expected to pay for their online service, but pots being dropped is a shot across the bows.

Lets be honest, this is THE game event of the century. To this day, D2 and LoD were the games I most anticipated and both of them delivered. So will D3.

Would it be viable to do it as a one off payment? I mean that you buy the game as a one off payment, then buy the online bits of it as a one off payment too? They say they not nescesarily going subscription based.

There looks to be lots of nice clay plots with copious amount of polygonal detail on them to smash. Thats all that matters surely.

With the Benedictine monks.
That souped up chain lightning and witch doctors bouncing ball o flaming boom, boom death looks nifty!!
