Turn 34 - LAzy DM moves things onwards

[Assumptions taken: Atak casts Detect Magic on the items left on the bodies and on the objects in the chamber]

You search the body of the minotaur and find the following items:

Huge Greatsword (huge as in huuuuuge) It radiates magic....

Potion of Cure Moderate Wounds.....

A ring made of bone. It has a skull carved on the top of it. It also radiates magic.....

Each of the goblins carries a masterwork shortbow, 10 arrows (left), and also wear a similar ring. These too are magic.


The chamber is on two levels. the lower level where you are is dominated by the strange metal sphere in the middle of the room. Gaps can be seen around the sphere suggesting it is broken or not finished. Oddly Knok identifies the sphere as a Warding Generator. It seems that the device was never finished and knok could easily pick out required materials to fix the device.

climbing up to the next level (the balcony area) you are presented with the blue door.

A steel door 10 feet high and 8 feet wide bars the way to the west. It shimmers with a bluish sheen, the delicate traceries of mystic runes covering its surface. The sheen seems to fill in the hairline gap between the door and the stone sill, like mortar made of light. In front of the door lie the corpses of four small humanoid creatures with gray-green skin,wearing piecemeal
bits of leather armor. A few bloody short swords and axes lie among them as well. These creature also bear the bone rings appearing to be goblins.

It seems that who ever it was you fought had been interrupted at the door by someone else.

On the same level as you can be seen more exits. 2 to the north and 2 to the south.

Arak will investigate the ring of bone since it looks interesting before doing anything else (don't have much time atm...will try and repost with something more useful)

Thak slings the sword across his back (if that's ok peeps) for to sell/hang up above his firepit later. Then he will limp to and stand guard at the steel door just in case.

All the while mumbling about the cleric and need of healing.

Caligula takes his thumb out of his arse and remembers to read the forum again, after a while deciding that people here are in fact worth healing, as keeping them alive is pretty much the only chance he has of getting out of here alive...

Scooping up another of the rings of bone, he asks Arak whether he can tell anything about them.

Healing:

Caligula can heal the party and will do so as follows:

Bamoin: Cure Moderate Wound X 2 - 30 hps healed

Thak: Cure Serious Wounds X 2 - 37hps healed + Potion Cure Moderate Wounds: 14 hps healed (used the potion found on Minotaur)

Belwar: Cure Light Wounds X 1 - 12 hps healed

Atak : Cure Light Wounds X 1 - 5hps healed

Knok estimates it would take a week to fix the generator if he could find the right materials. They would have to be specially crafted, but once fixed it would activate itself and then stop anyone gaining access to this part of the dungeon. Other than that there is little else to glean from a study of the object.

The bone ring is odd, it radiates Divination magic very strongly and Transmutation magic which is not so strong. However without casting identify he fails to get a true idea of what the ring does. (Identify takes several hours to cast but gives ALL benefits of the magic item)

You have exits - 2 in the north wall and 2 in the south wall. Map will be updated.

Only thing still outstanding on wounds is the Wis Loss (temporary - will return at a rate of 1 point / 24hrs or using relevant spells - not memorised currently by Caligula)

"This ring seems to be linked in some way to the school of Divination, and less so to Transmutation. If I focus my energies upon the magic, I might be able to uncover its secrets in a few hours. Considering the curious build of this equipment and the nature of the magic the ring appears to hold, we might want to consider resting here while I cast my spell. It could give us valuable information for our journey."

You rest for the night, the mages meditating and studying, the Cleric praying, by the morning you feel refreshed and ready to continue.

During the night Thak cast identify on the ring and this is what he gleaned:

The ring is designed to do two things, the first allow somone to monitor the wearer at all times using scry. The second, it can be used, with the right command word to return the user to the rings origin. This teleport capability is a one charge affair and can only teleport the user. The Command word is: To the Quaan

You gain no more information from the ring.

New day: New actions, you have 2 passages to the north and two to the south from the generator chambers upper level, or you can go back to the previous room and head south.

jial wakes up, and is ready to explore the passageways. "with no clear route forwards, it probably doesnt matter which way we go. in the absence of any better way to decide order, let us start at the northeast passage, and explore them each in a clockwise fashion."

DM HINTAGE:

Okay, going back all those months you where tasked with two things initially.

1. From the order of the inverted pyramid - the Glass armed Jevvica asked you to discover how the Black Elf escaped from the Banewarrens, and if indeed they had been opened.

>> You can surmise at this point the following about this task:

1. Someone or thing used 2 umberhulks to tunnel into an area of the banewarrens that by the looks of things was not warded against entry - The generator you have found which is incomplete would prevent anyone gaining access to the area you are in currently. Being incomplete however the outerwalls could be breached.

2. The group seemingly involved wear bone rings. At least 1 has mentioned 'Quaan' and the activation on the ring is 'To the Quaan' - who the Quaan are and what there motives in the warrens are is unknown at this point. But you can easily surmise it was these who used the umberhulk to gain access.

You could consider this part of the mission complete. You have information to take back to Jevvica. But there is probably 2 things to puzzle:
a. The dead goblins at the silvery door (which btw no one has yet decided to examine in depth) - How did they die? What killed them?
b. How the elf actually escaped. From where did he come?

The second task :

A Champion / Paladin of the church has gone missing. Augries performed by the priests suggest that his disappearance is linked to the escaped Black elf and tied to your destiny. At this point you have not seen any sign nor indication of this champions whereabouts.

This mission is still well and truly unsolved.

you don't mean "atak", you mean "Arak" FGS!!! :p It's his ****ing name - how would you like it if you were a large half-orc fighter, who had begun to focus his intentions instead upon the illustrious world of magic, and some stupid tit couldn't even get your name right!!!
