They were a Valentine's gift one year - it's a single red rose and it has a chars name on it, so you could give them to ppl for Valentines :)

i tried to like UO.
i really did.
I remember how happy i was about getting the special edition thingy, with the cloth map and the pin-badge thingy.
i started with the rest of CUK at the time, and couldnt get into it.
i tried again, a year or so later, with cuk, and still couldnt have any fun with it.
i even tried just starting out on my own, and didnt like it.
It was a shame really, cause it seemed like a good game, and lots of other people had fun with it.... :(
ah well. having fun with WoW and Eve now - couldnt afford another one as well :p

Sept - I haven't really played for the last year - I have kept 2 accounts going just cos I couldn't bear to part with all the cutesie pressies that I'd been given by friends. Its been purely for sentimental reasons cos I have so many memories of great times and great friends.
However, we are getting a mortgage and gonna be very skint so I decided I had to bite the bullet and bid a farewell to them all as I can't really justify the 20 a month :(
Zeus - I have to say that UO is the only online game I've ever been completely addicted to, there is just something about it that no other game comes close to for me, despite all the new and flashier graphics.

Would have to say I still think UO has been the best MMG ever, was very dissapointed with the cancelation of UO 2, but maybe it wouldn't have lived up to its predecessor so may have been a good thing.

Wonder wot the server populations are like these days. Couldn't b that many still playing it is there?

Yup agreed it was the best/most addictive MMG I've played, was sad to cancel my account, but I've kept my account and have popped back a couple of times, was amazed they saved the chars for 2-3 years between activation.

One thing stuck in my mind from my last try tho ... I saw there's now 'vouchers' for x amount of items, eg I found a vendor selling 60,000 iron ingot vouchers for x amount, think they worked out 6g each.

I ummed and arrred about buying it, then one day it was gone, I was annoyed, but checked back there a couple of times, lo and behold I visit the vendor again, and there a whole pack stuffed full of 60k iron ingot vouchers ... (eg at least 10 mill worth of ingots)

I tried mining 'manually' saw a few macroers while doing it, I did it for a whole Saturday at least 8 hours and got about 4.5k iron ingots (plus all the other colours). So how the hell did that guy have 1000's of 1000's of ingots in what seemed like a couple of days? It would have taken me a year 8 hours a day to get that many ... *shrug* that annoyed me more than not buying them in the first place!

Bert.

In the Evil lands of illish they had vendor "carts" these vendors use to move from town to town selling raw items at low prices. You could buy 1 raw iron for 2gp, and then turn that stright into a ingot. They sold upto 999 in a bundle and usally 10-20 bundles at a time with a 15mins re-stock or somthing like that. They did this for wood/potion bottles and regs as well.

Theres also a program called EasyUO which people can use to afk macro pretty much anything. That way they can get 40k ingots or some rediculous amount in a day (assuming they are only using one account...).

I'v used it on free shards where that sort of thing is allowed.

I didn't know ebay had an "internet games" section.. when i sold my EVE account there wasnt one, amazing how much prices have changed though; i got 1 per million last year and now you get 200 million for 30.

I've still got my original UO account, literally from day 1. Koster had it flagged permanent (or something like that) after we all did that "Get UK servers" thang years back. Only problem is that I cant sell it, same with my DAoC account.. shame really as they'd go for mint!!!!

Macro-ing really spoilt most of my enjoyment of any of the online games... don't play them at all nowadays nor do i have any inclination to do so...every new game out still screams of repititious gameplay and there has been nothing novel done in years.

Sharra the amazing thing is that once you 'let go' you really don't give a monkeys. It's the actual closing down that's the tough thing :) I kept my UO and EQ accounts active for years after I stopped playing. DAoC and Planetside I managed to be a little more controlled about and closed them after a few months, but I still know that my characters are waiting there for me if I ever decide to reactivate ;)
