Warmachine - Starting out

Right, so now I'm pretty set on getting Warmachine and giving it a spin to replace 40k, with my idea being I can sell off my gobbo army to fund Warmachine, but a couple of questions:

- Will all the old scenery/wrecked buildings I have from 40k still be able to be used/the right scale ?
- I've read a number of things about needing to use superglue instead of plastic glue, is there a particular type people would recommend ?
- I've also read alot about magnetising the warjacks so I can just swap things out to make different types and also possibly remove arms/weapons as they are damaged, now I've never done this before. 1. Is it just the arms you magnetise ? 2. What do people feel is the correct size magnets to use, or is it just getting the biggest one's I can that will fit ? (Assuming Cad reads this I'm hoping you do the magnetising of the warjacks with your good eyes :))
- I'm going to start out with the two player box, anything else out the box people would recommend getting ? Obviously I already have dice/ruler/play area
- Will getting started with the two player box set contain enough models to have an enjoyable game, or is it more aimed as a taster to get people into the rules and seeing if they like the structure of things ?

Yes. Same scale.

I would recommend Filla Glue. Grab a starter pack if they have one - http://www.filla-glu.com/ourshop/cat_259044-Kits.html get the top one - you get 3 grades of glu and a kickapen to use on the metal joints first.

Depends - for Space marines for instance I used 2mm/2mm and 1mm/1mm magnets but to be honest these are too small. this should help though : http://www.miniwargaming.com/magnet-guide

Probably. I haven't actually played but i suspect it will be fine for a starting game and give you enough to get going.

A few things to consider:

1. Sleeves for the cards and a dry wipe pen
2. Counters to mark wounds etc and other bits.

Personally I love the models but wouldnt touch the system. Ive both heard and seen that you can win in turn 1 and the game is more about who knows the rules the best and the special abilities of your opponent vs any real tactics.

Id look at Dystopian Wars or Dust (tactics/warfare) or Malifaux (cards no dice) personally over Warmachine but thats just based on conversations wiht people at the local club etc - I do like the models though.

Also you do know Salute is on at Excel on the 21st April right? Wayland games will be there. If you can hold off and go to Salute you should be able to pick up some decent packages and negotiate some fairly good prices.. Ill be there with a friend i suspect.

hmm, maybe be technically possible, but i'd tend to say that any opponent who sets up in a silly enough way to get beaten in turn 1 doesnt deserve to win :p
most games i've played (only been playing about 3-4 months) tend to be won in turns 3-4

the 2 player box set... contains (iirc) Khador and Menoth... its very good value so long as you want those factions! (khador = close combat violent russiany types, menoth = religious fanatics)
actually, so long as at least 1 of you wants one of those factions, it works out that your paying about 5 more to get the entire other faction, and the rules :p

1. What is Salute ?
2. What/Where is Excel (I'm assuming we're not talking Microsoft Excel)
3. Are you going along ?

As part of the appeal of Warmachines is pricepoint, needing less models, and of course warjacks, and I thought Dust was tanks, though looking at the website it looks more mech like ....

I think though I'll give Warmachines a spin as it's a cheap way to start and then look at other options if it doesn't feel right

1. Salute is the biggest dedicated wargames show

2. East london / Docklands. Not a million miles away from Canary Wharf. Its a big exhibition centre

3. Yes - Of Course. :)

Hopefully ill bump into Jed again as well.

4. Dust: is an alternative WW2 game. It has both walkers and infantry using an alien element found during the war. Currnetly you have Axis (the germans effectively though Nazi germany has been eradicated at this point), the Allies ( American / British) and now the Sino-Soviets - russia.

Russia will add the first flying units to the game.

Been playing for about a year now, and while i play hordes (same game, but we use fury not focus) its a great game, it much much more balanced then 40K by a long short and hugely tactical. Knowing what you oppenent can do is an importantly element, but its really not hard to pick up.

winning on turn one is very rare and you can not win on turn long unless your appoint balls up his deployment hugely, and thats only if you are playing caster kill. Almost all of the seneros are gear up to hold various objective zones and are set up to play aggressive. You can not sit back and shot, its all about getting stuck in!

i love it to bits! playing Circle of orborous and about to start menoth.

I think Warmahordes has become a more popular game than 40K for the 20-40 somethings (along with Dystopian wars)

If your opponent has the app, I think you can see their stuff during the game.
Seems good though, I'll likely buy the full set of warmachine and hordes.

Stuff like this has been a long time coming, too long in fact and considering the resources of GW im surprised that they have not been leading the way with something like this.

Id hope you dont need to own another faction list to view your opponents list as you are just viewing his army so that information can be sent over the network for the one off battle your fighting.

Obviously this will be a lot better on a tablet rather than a phone but still a very nice development.
