Ill play the Clan cleric probably, as well as a rogue.

Cleric might be Dwarvern, Rogue definately human.

actually, although i would love to play a warforged (purely for the idea of it, i have no idea of its stats or abilities :p) , i have a feeling a lot of people will....
what charactor classes can warforged be? presumably somewhat limited... and what are their pros/cons?

There biggest weaknesses are : Cannot wear armour, no natural healing, healing spells only work at 50% capacity.

I think a warforged can be anything, I know the things changes in 3.0 rules which allowed for things like gnome monks so at a guess (and I could be wrong) warforged could be anything but would make very very very very very very poor rogues due to all the squeeking and grinding.

Warforged can be healed well by wiz and sorc with the "repair item" or some such spell but a normal heal spell does only do half (as zed said).

Main thing (for my money at least) about warforged is the fact they are constructs so while they fair better with things like poison stick a rust monster into the mix and it could get hairy (as the constructs are made up of if not entirely but a large part being metal)

Mellee class does sound found with left click swing, right click block with shield thing, I might make a halfling bard as well if only cos I never really got on with bards in pnp, oh and maybe halfling sorc if there aren't many casters kicking around.

Human mage (either wizzie or sorc, not sure which) most likely to start. I fancy having a warforged pet, too. Any volunteers? :)

Might also try a gnome paladin, as my NWN gnome pally was such good fun.

Finally, an evil human cleric/warrior might also be fun, aiming to be effectively an EQ1 style SK. Concept worked quite nicely in NWN, esp. with the shadow pet at lower levels. He was kind of funky, esp. as Negative Energy Ray could be used both as an offensive spell & as a pet heal :)

And no-one apart from Byzah has really mentioned multiclassing, what's people's general take on it ? I've never really played long enough to seriously consider multi-classing (which is a small part of the reason I'd like to do the on-line pnp type thing before hand :))

Well, if I do decide to try out this MMORPG (which will only really happen if I grow bored of EQ2), then I for one will be an Elven Ranger/Mage. It's a setup I wanted to play forever, in PnP, but never got around to.

Interesting question with no firm answer. It certainly wont hurt the PC's - the boards have had speculation and answers on how this can be addressed but nothing every came back concrete from the Devs to date.

I was always in favour of setting 1D6 to 1 for each pc in range.

but... surely the whole party-nuking side of things is one of the main deterrents to using fireballs on something at your feet? :p
