Fishing is hard against some targets due to the PC not being as instantly responsive as PS2, so what do I need to hook up the PS2 online and play FFXI ?

Yeah I think Gottaa is correct. I'm pretty sure the HHD has never been released in Europe so not sure how imports of those work? I have the ethernet adapter for my PS2 only used it once to play Burnout revenge on it on the day I setup the adapter lol. Been on my PC since hehe.

Have you not tried getting a USB PS2 pad adapter for your PC? its what I use to play all the time (took some getting used too) it by-passes all that horrible lag you get from the PC's keyboard (something to do with the way Windows processes keyboard commands) especially the CTRL and ALT macro lag. Hit L2 or R2 and *bing* the macro lines appear instantly. Anyway that may help you with fishing as you can use the analog sticks for that, and it is an 'arcade' like part of the game.

Ive just ordered the 360 version, so i can play in a bit more comfort when the missus has gone to bed on a big tv.

Not sure about chat though? without a keyboard?

Just get a USB keyboard and plug it in the 360, works just fine. :)

The 360 version is dead easy to get up and running with a PC account by the way, it will ask you if you already have a PlayOnline account or want to create a new one, just stick in your existing details and that's it.

Only problem is the usual US/UK version thing, if you've been playing a US version of FFXI on PC then you won't be able to access the PlayOnline account administration stuff through a UK 360 version but you'll be able to log in and play the game just fine.

Hi everyone by the way! :D
