What game are you looking forward to this autumn/winter?

It's good fun.

Not like Forza's precision driving where trying to perfect your driving and car setup to shave 100's of a second of your lap times. This is much more furious arcadey feel, perfect lines are exchanged for simply hanging in there and trying to minimise the mistakes.

The single player is ok although my major gripe in racing games raises it's ugly (but not unexpected) head in catchup rubberbanding AI, it's not as bad as some games (Burnout, Mario Kart, Midnight Club...) but it's definately there. Although on the rally stages where you race times rather than cars it's obvisously not present, which is nice.

Multiplayer is surprisingly good fun. Where races are split into rally races - everyone is on the course at the same time but collisions are off, so the opponents are seen as ghosts. ALso there are normal circuit races with collisions on, both are good fun with the rally stages tending to be won by the player who makes the least mistakes and the circuit races being all about staying out of trouble at the start.

Collisions and crashes tend to be pretty insane, lots of rolling and body damage, although the damage is mostly cosmetic, you do get wheel damage only - which doesn't change much aside from making you go slightly slower.

Sounds fun, but think I'll still hold out on Forza3 then. Batman will keep me going for a fair while longer I'd guess, and then I really should do inFamous justice. Was looking at Dragon Rising but unless I can convince some others to get it for co-op fun not sure I get my moneys worth as it seems to do co-op well from what I've heard.

And anyone else with Batman think it would have been better without the silly 2d platformy scarecrow bits ? I really like the game, think the powerups could have been better (or allow a sell-back option when you realise that the proximity explosive actually makes it much harder)

I didn't mind the scarecrow bits to be honest. I thought they added abit of varity to the gameplay, without being frustrating, personally I thought they weakest part of the game was the 'Killer Croc' section, too long and repetative. I enjoyed the game alot though, wish i'd played it on a harder setting though - played it on medium and completed it without any real issues - I may go back and play it on a harder setting, but more than likely i'll trade it in before the value drops, not sure the repeat value of it would be much fun.

Just got to that section, eep

I really liked the riddler bits, but once I finish it, I can't see it being played again, but then I never really replay a game I've finished

Finished Batman (I played through on hard) and it was a bit brilliant wasn't it?

Its been a long time since I read Arkham Asylum but from what I remember they've done a great job of the style and atmosphere. They probably could have gone darker, but I guess they wanted to keep it a 15.

All of the presentation was excellent. The voice acting particularly especially Mark Hamill as the Joker.

The stealth/combat mix also worked well. The combat borrows a lot from Assassins Creed but is deeper with more moves. The stealth is not going to keep Thief awake at night but it does the job.

I thought it out-stayed its welcome by about an hour and on hard the Titan henchman fights became tiresome and repetitive. The boss fights also were pretty painful. It seems as though devs can't get boss fights right anymore.

Overall well worth a punt.

Had a few hours on Halo 3: ODST and well, its Halo.

I started straight in on Legendary and as always at that level, the combat is perfectly balanced. Every fight is that typical Halo fight of attrition (with the usual scavenging for ammo in between). The Hunters especially are a bloody nightmare on Legendary. Haven't noticed any real progression with the AI but it was good in Halo 3 anyway. Better use of flanking maybe.

Not playing as MC hasn't changed the dynamics too much. You feel weaker but still capable although you also have to scavenge for health. Hiding behind something waiting for health and shield regen is gone.

Presentation is hit and miss. I hate the characters, all tough talking jock types with no charm whatsoever but the music is great. Visually this is probably the last game they can get away with using this engine. Really showing its age compared to COD4 and Killzone 2.

Played some Firefight as well. Basically a multiplayer fight to survive as long as possible against groups of mobs that increase in difficulty. Great level design (added in with the great combat) are going to make this another winner.

Only real downside so far is that the campaign is supposed to be quite short from reading reviews.

Wasn't a massive fan of MC to be honest. The single player was abit blink and it's over and the multiplay while decent always just seemed like a complete and utter fragfest - tight little maps, no time to think or use much in the way of tactics, just run and gun and lots and lots of dying. Hope the maps are much bigger this time and they include some vehicles, always preferred the Battlefield games online.

I bought myself 5 cheapish games and Batman was one of them.

I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed it. Yes there were niggles but far too much fun to be had to make me bother with them.
